Erasmus+: ICT skills for Educators - Palermo

Rating: 3/58 utilizatori

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING CONTENT
Computing and IT is required by all businesses and jobs in today’s world. Information and Communication technology (ICT) has the potential to transform teaching and learning processes. According to a recent study in OECD countries, students are more sophisticated in their use of technology than teachers; an inherent discrepancy between student knowledge and usage of ICTs with the abilities of teacher to use ICTs. This suggest that teacher inexperience and skill deficiencies may often be a fundamental factor which prevents the effectiveness of ICT use in education. The same study reveals that the most effective uses of ICT are those in which the teacher, aided by ICTs, may challenge understanding and thinking of pupils, and this can be done through whole-class discussions and/or individual/small group workshops using ICTs. Nowadays, it is widely accepted that the use of ICTs should not aim at completely transforming teacher practices in and of itself but rather enabling and supporting the move from traditional ‘teacher-centric’ teaching styles to more ‘learner-centric’ methods. In other words, making each one of the students active and fully engaged. The ‘ICT skills for Educators’ course is designed to enable participants to improve their teaching practices with the use of specific ICT tools, such as smart boards, web conferencing and webinars, among others, thus, creating a ‘learner-centric’ classroom. This is an ideal course for all teachers, educators & trainers interested in continuing professional development (CPD).

MAIN AIMS
• To guide participants in their achievement of the course learning outcomes
• To provide opportunities for participants to reflect on their own practice
• Prepare participants for implementing course content in their own classrooms
• Enhance participants’ skills to develop their learners’ digital skills and literacy
• To provide a technological toolkit for educators and improve the level of key competences and ICT skills
• To access a variety of on-line resources to promote good practice in education
• Share best practices, ideas and materials between colleagues within the EU

WHY ICTE?
The course will allow educators to interact with others to improve their level of IT skills at their own pace enabling their updated knowledge to be used for school improvement. ICTE will improve the educator’s ability to use innovative and student-centred learning approaches and develop appropriate assessment to move their learners forward in their use of ICT. ICTE will enhance the participant’s ability to reduce low achievement of their pupils and students in ICT at the same time developing their pupils’ critical thinking when using ICT. The participants will be able to develop lessons for diverse learners – learners with special needs to high achievers by improving their own confidence to offer IT support. Participants will become a confident user of ICT across a range of medias and applications.

METHODOLOGY OF THE COURSE – ADDED VALUE
The course methodology will ensure the active involvement of the participants in all phases, that is, prior, during and after the delivery of the course. More specifically, upon confirmation that the course will take place, the participants will receive preparatory material (if needed), which will cover all important concepts to be presented during the delivery of the course. The participants will have the opportunity to exchange feedback with the organiser of the course, ShipCon, and the trainer as well as to request any clarification related to the content of the course.
The methodology of the training is based on a combination of three important elements:
• Provision of knowledge required (theory)
• Use of training tools, such as case studies, videos, games, animations & exercises (practice – hands on experience)
• Feedback/reflection (review)
During the delivery of the course, the participants will receive hard copy material, which will cover the content to be presented in all five (5) days of the seminar. The material will be presented in a form of Power Point (PPT) presentations, videos & animations. Moreover, the active involvement and hands on experience of the participants will be secured through various training tools, such as case studies, worksheets, scenarios & exercises. These training tools are necessary to ensure that the theoretical knowledge gained by the participants can be used in real life scenarios; an important aspect & added value for any training course.
At the final day of the course, the participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the information received and the experience gained in the specific field of study. This course should have been an ICT (Information and Communication Technology) - course. Sorrily it couldn´t improve my skills in this subject. I did expect to return from this course with the ability, to use and improve such technologies in my school. I only learned some titles of tools - which I cannot use in my school. Most of them have to be paid also from the students - so I hardly will be able to use them. So the preselection of the presented tools was rather bad. The presentation itself mostly consisted of showing youtube-video-tutorials. I could have done this for myself at home. I expected competent teaching of this tools to get effective to the point, how to use the tools for my specific needs in school. I haven´t got this. The organisation of the surroundings (Hotel, shuttle, ....) was well done. What I appiciated, was the possibility to talk to people from different countries an different sstems of education. So it was worth travel so far. I am sorry, that I have to write in this desperate way - but I was really disappointed.

I enjoyed this seminar very much because it was active, engaging, the trainer was very good and experienced. During the seminar week we had a lot of practical training and I learned new programs and tools that I can continue to use in my classroom to interact with my students better. Other participants were very nice and we had a good time together. I definitely recommend this seminar if you are willing to find a new ICT tools and gain more knowledge in this topic to make your lessons more interesting!

Unfortunately, this course did not fulfill my expectations as a teacher since it did not include a more recent and practical teaching/learning tools that could attract 21st century learner profile. Also, I would expect a more hands-on, practice oriented sessions in a more learner-friendly venue.

I enjoyed this course very much because of its active and project-related nature, and met many international participants from my field which resulted in great discussions in job-shadowing as well. The course material was useful, as we learned about Edmodo, Filmora and a filesharing structure that can be related to any project. We worked in groups during the course where we also analyzed our own personality type while working in a team.

The seminar was very international and combined participants from different countries - from Scotland, Germany, Finland, Estonia, France, Turkey and more. This seminar about ICT technologies in classroom was very useful and interesting - I learned how to use different Educational platforms such as EDMODO for better interaction with students. Also we learned some very nice and useful video creation programs like FILMORA and presentation tool PREZI which I did not know before so it was very useful. Seminar was workshop based with a lot of practical tasks, it was very well organized and atmosphere was nice during the seminar week. I am glad I took part in this seminar.

The seminar was dedicated to the training of participants in ICT technologies . The participation of our teachers in the seminar combined with the participation of teachers from other countries (from Scotland, Germany, Finland, Estonia, France, Turkey) helped them a lot in acquiring new knowledge but also in exchanging views and participating in workshops with teachers of those countries. We had the opportunity to acquire knowledge on how to use educational platforms like EDMODO for online interaction with our students, user friendly video editing tools, such as FILMORA & ANIMOTO as well as presentation tools like PREZI. All in all, it was a well organised seminar and we are happy for having attended it.

Thank you for your feedback. The material presented was much more intensive than the one described in the working schedule in our website. This is due to the fact that all our courses are regularly updated and this is an important aspect in a quality course, like the ones of Shipcon. It seems that you need to align your expectations with that of an Erasmus+ course and understand that at the same classroom in an Erasmus+ course there are participants with a very diverse background when it comes to ICT tools. This course is not meant to be for ICT experts; it is a course where teachers - of primary & secondary education mainly - learn some useful ICT tools with which they will interact with their students - this is clearly mentioned in the description of the course. This is the reason that the course covers tools like googledocs, animoto, etc. which for you might not be important but for a teacher at primary and secondary education are important to know and use. Furthermore, in the certificate of attendance there are the competences acquired from the course and hence the certificate of attendance we supply is also a certificate of competence - where have you seen that a training provider gives two certificates for the same course? Finally, the Europass mobility certificate you have to issue and we need to counter sign/stamp as host institution - its the first time we are being accused by someone who does not even know the procedure for issuing Europass certificate! Its your responsibility the issue of Europass; we simply counter sign/stamp after being issued by you. All in all, we truly believe that this course is of a value for any educator and that your feedback is unfair, to say the least!
