Mobile Squads

The Mobile Squads have been created to support schools address a range of factors that may lead to early school leaving. The services of the 'Mobile Squads' are requested by the school governing body and may refer to: absenteeism and school dropout; behaviour problems; conflicts between adults; educational staff training; and assistance for students, members of staff and school leaders. For more complex situations, the 'Mobile Squad' can decide to refer the case to more appropriate services.

'Mobile Squads' is an external service to the school. A 'Mobile squad' can only intervene in compulsory education in the territory of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels and upon the written request of the school. Depending on the issues addressed, the 'Mobile Squad' will implement different actions: for absenteeism, they will organise meetings with the family in order to raise awareness on the importance of school; and, in case of conflicts and tensions at school, mediation and conflict resolution techniques will be applied.

The 'Mobile Squads' can rely on a wide range of professionals, and are normally composed of former teachers, psychologists, professionals in crime-prevention, etc. Depending on the situation, the 'Mobile Squads' will decide whether they work either individually or in groups (with both adults and children).
