Course Description
All European schools differ from one another, but at the same time, they struggle with similar issues. Among these, it seems that discrimination and bullying are some of the most diffused and dangerous problems. Not only can they have negative effects on learning, but they can also lead to long-lasting, sad consequences that can affect the students throughout their whole life.
The increasing diffusion of problems connected to discrimination and bullying in schools should not make teachers feel weaker. On the contrary, if staff get together, observe real scenarios, and combine their strengths, they can set up effective strategies to improve educational processes, with small steps being taken every day.
So, that’s the aim of this course! Divided we fall, united we stand. This was the slogan of Gritfis* and this is the attitude that will guide the whole course.
By the end of the training, participants will have deeper insight into the dynamics underlying discrimination and bullying in schools. They will also have developed skills and practiced methodologies to prevent conflicts, manage emotions, and foster a better and healthier school environment.

*This training originated from the exchange of practices among European schools and teacher training centres within Gritfis KA2 Erasmus+ project, between 2016 and 2018. Gritfis inspired trainers at Europass, and the knowledge acquired during the project is the foundation for this course. It has been created so that more European teachers can be empowered to manage the more delicate issues that schools face nowadays.

The curse I enrolled in was coalled Embracing Diversity, Preventing Bullying and Violece, but the 2 themes of bullying and violence were not explored and exemplified enough, insisting only on diversity, multiculturalism and pedagogical methods.

The structure of the course did not follow the theme accuratedly, as the theme was embracing diversity, preventing violence and bullying. The structure contained less techniques for combating bullying and violence and it presented many teaching methods like project based learning or task based learning, which were not connected directly to the topic and were less appliable into our teaching environment. Also, the lack of feedback regarding my practical applications on the course confused me and created an incomplete immage of the course.

The course description was about embracing diversity, preventing violence and bullying. In reality, it focused greatly on mostly the diversity aspect and very little on the violence and bullying dimensions, which were my main interest. It presented a great deal of teaching techniques, like project based learning/task based learning/visual thinking strategy, that were non-specific in the way the course provider presented them, without exemplifying them in relation to the main topic of the course. As such, I was left with filling the gaps between the information given in order to form a coherent, integrated approach to managing bullying and violence in my school environment.
