Course Description

In this course, participants will understand the idea behind flipped classrooms and how it can be integrated into their own classroom curriculum. The flipped classroom has been defined as a pedagogical model in which the typical lecture and homework elements of a course are reversed. Short video lectures are viewed by students at home before the class session, while in-class time is devoted to exercises, projects, or discussions.

The "Flipped Classroom" is a new method of teaching which allows students to do homework in class and what is considered traditional class work at home. Often, short lectures, mostly in the form of videos or podcasts, are viewed by students before class starts. Flipped (upside down) classrooms focus on active learning and student engagement giving the instructor a better opportunity to deal with mixed levels, student difficulties, and differentiated learning styles during class time.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to confidently implement a "Flipped Classroom" lesson and will have gained the confidence to effectively prepare a Flipped Classroom lesson plan.

I attended the course in June 2019 and was highly satisfied with the content (very interesting theoretical contribution and many exemples of pedagogical activities to be carried out in a classroom) as well as with the good coooperation in the group. Our teacher, Ada Rigacci, gave great attention to our needs and suggestions. I will implement my fearst flipped lessons this automn thanks to this European course

I attended the Flipped Classroom course in Berlin from 9th to 14th July. We live in a society that assumes itself as cultured and democratic, that dreams of an equitable education, that, more than accepting all, allows us to reach all by the most diversified paths. In this sense, I flew towards Berlin in order to acquire knowledge that would allow me to realize this dream. I flew in search of sharing and improving my teaching practice with other teachers who, certainly, aim at the same as me: the happiness and success of our students. The Flipped Classroom course opened new doors and windows for teaching methodologies aimed at developing a culture of and for autonomy through research approaches that promote the integral evolution of all students, providing them with a set of skills that will allow them to walk through their personal and professional lives safely and peacefully. As Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams put it, "the inversion of the classroom sets a benchmark that offers students a personalized education tailored to their individual needs," thereby promoting the autonomy and success of all students. Admittedly, for a teacher, the task of personalizing teaching is arduous, since it is a single teacher for several students, however, during training, I soon realized that it was feasible through the flipped classroom method. "This method is replicable, scalable, customizable and easily adjustable to the idiosyncrasies of each teacher." (Bergmann, Jonathan and Sams, Aaron), since it consists of the fact that the teacher creates a video about a particular subject, share it with his students, who should watch it, taking notes, into the classroom, put into practice the contents seized. From Berlin, I came out safely at the level of understanding the concept of cooperation among all, personal development and autonomy, as well as perceived the need for creative learning that stimulates aesthetic and artistic sensibility, scientific, technical and technological knowledge. Given the differences among the course participants, I must say that the trainer did her best do facilitate the course effectively. I learned a lot and even more than only about the flipping my classroom. I gained insight into PBL and different forms of assessment as well. I was not fond of the classroom and and its equipment. I would have liked a greater use of digital tools to enable us to make better lesson plans.
