Positive Education is challenging the traditional educational paradigm worldwide. It aims to promote well-being and happiness in a holistic perspective, providing people with knowledge and skills to flourish in their present and future life.
This two-week course will introduce the participants to both the theoretical (Positive Psychology) and practical (Mindfulness) foundations of Positive Education to give them the most relevant tools to make a significant change in their life experience both in the classroom and beyond.
In the first week, participants will discover the fundamentals of Positive Psychology—i.e., the scientific study of human optimal functioning and flourishing. Focusing on personal life, and combining reflection on cognitive and emotional experiences, they will learn about how Positive Psychology helps individuals focus on strengths and virtues to enable them, their communities, and organizations to succeed. Participants will also design a personal project based on Positive Education to share with their colleagues once they go back to school.
In the second week, participants will be introduced to mindfulness as an opportunity to train their minds, drive attention to present moments, relax, achieve goals, and boost their self-awareness. They will discover how to manage their own stress and that of their students through hands-on practice (traditional approaches combining breath and movement along with shorter practices that can be done anywhere and anytime). Participants will also keep a journal which will serve as an invaluable resource for carrying their experiences forward.
Participants will leave the course having designed a self-practice routine to support themselves in their work and daily lives as well as a series of practices they can integrate into their classrooms. They will have learnt how to design programs that combine academics with the development of character strengthening and well-being, such as the experience of positive emotions, engagement with activities, establishment of meaningful practices and relationships. In addition, they will possess a set of mindfulness tools for strengthening emotional stability, intention, and focus.
