4. L-involviment tal-ġenituri

Il-ġenituri u l-familji għandhom l-aktar impatt dirett u dejjiemi fuq it-tagħlim u l-iżvilupp tat-tfal. Bħala l-ewwel edukaturi, dawn għandhom rwol kruċjali fil-vjaġġ edukattiv ta’ wliedhom. Ambjent tad-dar stimulanti li jinkoraġġixxi t-tagħlim kif ukoll l-involviment tal-ġenituri fl-attivitajiet fl-iskola hu kruċjali għall-iżvilupp konjittiv, soċjali u emozzjonali tat-tfal. Li wieħed jilgħab mat-tfal jew jaqralhom fis-snin bikrija tagħhom, jgħinhom fix-xogħol tad-dar jew jiddiskuti magħhom id-dar dwar il-ħajja tagħhom fl-iskola, li wieħed jieħu sehem fil-laqgħat bejn l-għalliema u l-ġenituri u l-attivitajiet oħra tal-iskola, iħallu effetti pożittivi u dejjiema fuq il-motivazzjoni tat-tfal studenti, u fuq l-attenzjoni, l-imġiba u l-kisbiet akkademiċi tagħhom. L-aspettattivi edukattivi tal-ġenituri għat-tfal tagħhom ikollhom ukoll sehem kruċjali fit-tiswir tat-tagħlim ta’ wliedhom. Biex jitjieb l-iżvilupp tat-tfal u ż-żgħażagħ għalhekk bżonn li jinbnew sħubijiet bejn l-iskola u l-familja u filwaqt li l-ġenituri jkunu involuti bħala sħab fit-tagħlim mis-snin bikrija.

Beanstalk Children’s Literature Charity

Beanstalk, a Children’s Literature Charity in England, was founded in 1973. Working closely with partner schools, they recruit, train and support volunteers to provide reading support for children between ages 3 and 13
The volunteers work one-to-one with children (with each volunteer working with one to three children), coming to the school for three hours each week over the course of a school year. To help build the child’s confidence and create trust, they may read, play and talk with the children. The Beanstalk book box is an important resource with appropriate books and games
Volunteers are asked to make a commitment to work with children for a full school year. Over time, the volunteer and the child build a trusting relationship, and the volunteer is able to learn more about the challenges children experience as they are learning.
The Charity currently reaches approximately 11,000 children across England annually.

These new methods had been introduced as part of the INCLUD-ED project, which the school joined in 2017. The school encouraged parents’ regular presence and volunteer support in classrooms, and introducednew teaching methods tosupport student learning through dialogue and exploration of identity. The new teaching methods and the emphasis on relationships and mutual support within the school community were also key to effective remote learning during school shut-down.

Sabiex tittejjeb il-klima tal-iskola, grupp ta’ skejjel mill-proġett tal-Komunitajiet tal-Apprendiment iddeċidew li joħolqu l-Brave’s Club. Dan huwa bbażat fuq “mudell djaloġiku ta’ prevenzjoni tal-kunflitti”. Minħabba li l-Club beda fl-2014, għamel progess fil-qerda tal-vjolenza fl-iskejjel kemm fi skejjel primarji kif ukoll f’dawk sekondarji. Din l-istrateġija qed tagħmilha aktar faċli li jitlaqqgħu flimkien prattiki effettivi sostanzjati bl-evidenza dwar il-prevenzjoni tal-vjolenza fil-klassijiet b’mod ġenerali, u b’mod aktar speċifiku, il-vjolenza abbażi ta’ sess.

Combating drop-out and early school leaving (ESL) in Serbia

UNICEF Serbia and the civil society organisation Centre for Education Policy with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development Republic of Serbia  implemented the project “Combating Early School Leaving in Serbia”.

This project aimed to contribute to decreasing drop-out and early school leaving of children and adolescents through development, establishment, and implementation of the school-based model for early identification of children at risk of dropping out and intervention in situations where dropping-out is taking place.

Combating drop-out and ESL in Serbia has been recognised as a policy priority area.  The Strategy for Education Development in Serbia 2020 (SEDS 2020) calls for the provision of high-quality education for all, an increase of students’ coverage and attainment at all levels of education by maintaining the relevance of education and increasing efficiency. The Strategy implementation is primarily focused on the development of human capital in Serbia, thus underlines importance of the inclusion of pupils from vulnerable and marginalised groups (Roma and children from poor families, children with disabilities and from rural areas etc.).

Education Endowment Foundation´s (EEF) parental engagement guidance report

The guidance report on “working with parents to support children´s learning“ is funded by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and focuses mostly on activities that aim to improve children’s learning directly. Thus, it reviews the best available research to offer schools and teachers four recommendations to support parental engagement in children’s learning. When it talks about ‘parental engagement’, ‘schools working with parents to improve children’s academic outcomes’ is meant. It is not a new study in itself, but rather is intended as an accessible overview of existing research with clear, actionable guidance. The guidance also draws on a wider body of evidence and expert input.

GRUPPI INTERATTIVI INCLUD-ED

Gruppi Interattivi hija waħda mill-Azzjonijiet Edukattivi ta' Suċċess (SEAs) identifikati fil-proġett ta' riċerka INCLUD-ED. INCLUD-ED analizza strateġiji edukattivi li jikkontribwixxu biex jingħelbu l-inugwaljanzi u jippromwovu l-koeżjoni soċjali, u dawk li jiġġeneraw l-esklużjoni soċjali, b'attenzjoni partikolari fuq il-gruppi vulnerabbli u emarġinati. Il-Gruppi Interattivi jintużaw sabiex itejbu l-edukazzjoni ta' tfal u żgħażagħ f'kuntesti differenti. F'dawn il-gruppi it-tfal tal-klassi jinġabru fi gruppi eteroġenji żgħar, kull wieħed minnhom mgħejun minn adult. Kull grupp ikun organizzat madwar erba' jew ħames studenti, b'mod eteroġenju f'dak li jirrigwarda l-livell tal-kapaċitajiet, is-sess, il-kultura, il-lingwa u l-etniċità. Dan l-eżempju jfiehem l-IG u r-riżultati tagħhom fil-prattika.
