Community-Based Lifelong Learning Centres

NESET - Network of Experts on Social Aspects of Education and Training publishes reports for policy makers and practitioners interested in promoting equity and inclusion in education and training across the European Union. This paper seeks to examine strategies for establishing community based lifelong learning centres in EU Member States. It explores evidence and research on the benefits and advantages of establishing such centres, as well as the barriers and difficulties impeding both the establishment and effectiveness of such centres. The report concludes that community based lifelong learning centres can simultaneously provide instantiations of a range of key lifelong learning objectives, such as active citizenship, social cohesion/inclusion, personal and social fulfillment, intercultural dialogue, as well as employment pathways.

Initiatives to improve literacy

Maltese learner support initiatives around improving literacy are set within an overall context of a National Literacy Strategy for All which sought to consolidate current national programmes which has involved over 8000 students per year. Schools are able to plan and run their own literacy support projects for their own pupils and students who may need this. These initiatives are funded through grants, mainly from the local authorities.

Local Engagement for Roma Inclusion (LERI) - Multi-Annual Roma Programme

LERI is a qualitative action research project under FRA’s multi-annual Roma Programme. It was developed in response to the European Commission’s Communication on an EU Framework for National Roma integration strategies up to 2020. LERI brings together local authorities and residents, in particular Roma, to investigate how they can best be involved in Roma integration actions, and identify which aspects of these actions work, which do not, and why. The aim of the project is to facilitate the engagement of all local stakeholders, including Roma, in joint efforts to enable Roma inclusion. The experience gained and the lessons learned during the process will help improve the design, implementation and monitoring of Roma integration policies and actions at the local level.

My education, my job, my future

My education, my job, my future is a project that aims to prevent early school leaving and to encourage and inspire students to continue school.

In this project, students had the opportunity to learn about various jobs that exist today in their country and in Europe, as well as to learn about future jobs. Various workshops had been organised to help them discover their skills and to help them to choose the right path for their future career. Students learned the basic steps of how to start up their own business. Through this project students were encouraged to develop their 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking & creativity and understood how important education is for their future career as well as for their development and personal life.
