Internationalisation of curriculum and national identity

Location: Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe (France)

In order to fulfil the objectives raised by EU 2020, the schools should be able to cater for new phenomena such as internationalisation of education and support the creation of flexible learning pathways in line with learners' needs and objectives.
However, many teachers come across the dilemma of balance between internationalism and national identity, especially in single nation countries. This course will demonstrate that internationalisation of curriculum significantly enhances national identity. Learning about unique features of their own and other cultures pupils come to increased understanding of their own national identity at the same time developing senses of tolerance and acceptance.
During the course participants will analyse internationalisation strategy and explore various methods and tools creating internationalisation policy for their school. Alongside, interactive French language learning activities will provide participants with insight into local community.
eTwinning is an important component of the course work where participants share their daily learning ideas. It also serves as monitoring and dissemination tool.

First, I am really glad that I had this possibility to come to Guadeloupe. Normally I am spending a lot of time in France and for me it was so interesting to come to this oversea department and could develop this mixture of french and creole culture. It is something very special with this island. It was a good way to think about internationalisation and the own nationality at this area with a lot of history and contrasts. I was very touched by the history of slavery and naturally I started to think about our own story in Germany. The “red threat” for me was the constant comparison of different cultures and ways of living. I was impressed by the way of living here and I told me to bring for my own a little bit back to my life in Germany. A little bit more relaxation (I do not know if it would be possible). I am glad that I had the possibility to train on one side my French and on the other side my english. Every day we had possibilities to train our language competences. Concerning our objects of the course, we learned a lot about strategies of internationalization, we thought about bringing them in our schools and in the curriculums. I appreciate that we have got a lot of topic related articles, literature and youtube videos. I am sure that I will benefit a lot of them at home. I really liked the practical work for example to create an international policy or to prepare a project. In my opinion it was a good mixture of theory, practical and mobility. Thanks a lot!!!!

I have learned on this course that even though our school is already doing a lot on an international level, there are still way more options for projects and all kinds of international exchange. The communication and exchange with the colleagues from all around Europe is one of the biggest strengths of this course because I learned a lot about what other schools are doing, which channels they are using, what kind of courses they have already attended and so on. Visiting all the fascinating varied locations on Guadeloupe was also a great and informative experience.

The participation in this course is a surprising opportunity. I am delighted. What a magnificent experience. The contents of the course correspond strictly to what was announced. It is an excellent opportunity to learn about personal identity, national and internationalisation. It also deals with the theme of culture, its relevance, its forms of expression, multiculturalism and its dimensions and the importance of music as a cultural vehicle. Another area addressed in this course is the area of key competences, global competences, how to internationalize an institution, how to internationalize a curriculum, the policies of internationalization and the dimensions/stages of a project. In addition to the relevance of the topics covered, there is a very rich contact with the culture and society of Guadalupe - a minimalist way of living happily. All this, in a context of relaxed learning in outdoor environments - an educational bet. A word of thanks to Rita - a sympathy - to Michel, to the other participants and to all those who made this experience possible. Not being unrepeatable, this was an unforgettable course.

Because this was my first Erasmus+ project, i don´t have anything to compare it to. Reflecting on our last two weeks spent on the beautiful island of Guadeloupe I can say, that it was a great experience for me! The course was well organized and I loved the idea of outdoor classrooms and seeing many different sites on the island. The biggest strength of the course was the exchange with our international colleagues and I learnt a lot about school life in different countries all around Europe and their different approaches to learning. So I´m returning home after two inspiring and motivating weeks with a lot of ideas to improve the international work at our school.

The course offered an overview of ways to internationalize your school, focussing on international projects and how to establish them. Moreover, it gave a lot of practical information, especially in the reader provided, on how to fill out Ka1 and Ka2 applications which will be quite helpul to us and our school because this was our first Ka1 course. Besides, we learned a lot about key competences and how to apply those in international projects. I especially enjoyed the stunning outdoor classrooms and activities and the exchange between the international colleagues. It would have been nice to focus even more on activating exercises and lively discussions between the colleagues and maybe also to plan a specific international project with the different countries involved.

I really enjoyed the course. The 10-day course went by so quickly, I could have attended a couple more. The course was well organised and all learning happened outdoors by visiting different places each day. The places we went were connected to topics for each day. This course gave me a deep insight into international work at schools around Europe. Continuing our work will be a lot easier after taking part in this course. Thank you Rita and other participants for having such a wonderful 10-day course!

This was my first Erasmus+ course, so I don’t have anything to compare it with, but the next courses are going to have a hard time to compete with it. These 10 days have been amazing. Rita organized the course very well. I have the feeling I’ve seen the whole Island and really got to know the way of living around here. Rita succeeded in creating the perfect work – life – balance. The most valuable aspects for me were: 1) I have learnt a lot about culture in general and especially about the culture and nature of Guadeloupe. Rita’s knowledge and stories about Guadeloupe established a deep connection with the island and a better understanding of the people living here. 2) The learning environments were absolutely stunning. I will take with me that learning outdoors has a lot to offer and I will give my students the chance to experience this learning environment first hand. 3) I have learnt a lot about how to plan a project and the importance of key competences and becoming a global citizen. 4) It was great to have the opportunity to talk to teachers from around the world; to exchange experiences with projects and to get and give tips how to develop your international work at your school. It was a great experience and I would definitely do it again. Thank you Rita!

The course "A Classroom with a door to the world", gave me a global vision of the internationalization process, what it means to be a global citizen, a development of the key competences of lifelong learning, in a unique multicultural involvement - Guadeloupe, full of contrasts and social asymmetries, which transform us and enrich us at personal and professional level. To embrace the world, to think globally and to act locally, is to share a training process that all teaching professionals should experience, so that they can better understand the dreams, needs and motivations of the younger generations, guiding them in the choices of great life stories, in which multicultural heritances will strengthen their identities, enabling through education a safer, more sustainable and respectable future in human and environmental values and rights. It was an excellent approach and transforming experience that I recommend to all international colleagues. Thank you and see you soon... Well there's

It's the last day of a 10-day course. Surprisingly I'm not exhausted. Quite the contrary! I could easily go on for few more days. That means the lessons and the school days and the excursions weren't too long. The course was well organised. The strength of the course was outdoor classrooms and seeing many different sides of this beautiful island. There isn't much to improve. However, some of the lessons could have been more interactive and using more outdoor learning methods. I am very happy I attended this course. This is a paradise island. I learnt a lot on humanity, variety of life and myself. Get knowledge, care and act! That is a great motto I learnt here. Thank you Rita and the whole group! Au revoir❤️

This course have been life-changing experience. It was great to get to know such as unique place as Guadeloupe by its cultural heritage and nature. It have been nice time here – many travels around the island to learn more about Guadeloupe, about multiculturalism, about internationalization, about how the world is connected. All the objectives (improvement of management and teaching competences; exploring teaching methods that emphasize real life experiences; analyze of European dimension inside our curriculum; improvement of language competence (English and French); building connections with colleagues from other countries; increasing knowledge of preparation, implementation, monitoring and follow up of international projects) have been achieved. I have many new ideas and a lot of inspiration for future projects, cooperation, and ways how to improve my schoolwork in international field.

I really liked the course. I especially liked that we moved to a new location every day and how the teacher many times used the location to explain globalization and internationalization through this specific location (the rain forest, the islands, the market, the museum, the costal cliffs etc.). I have got many ideas for internationalization my school. From audit, to policy and strategy. And working with identification and culture. I loved the last French test! ;-)

I have learnt a lot on the course Classroom with a Door to the World. I have learnt about globalisation and interculturism. Earlier I didn't quite understand how important your own identity and national identity is in the intercultural context. So I found new perspective and I think I learnt the things better as we learnt them from a personal point of view. We always tried to put each theme learnt in the International Policy of our own school. So things that we discussed did not only stay hanging in the air so to speak. I learnt from other cultures and school systems from other countries. I think I made good contacts for the future. I even got extra contact from Rita from the Neatherlands because we have mutual interests in future project and Rita recognized it. I am very gratefull for this. I think Rita as a groupleader and a teacher has a talent in noticing what are each person's professional strenghts, potential and needs. She wants to offer something new to learn for everybody on the course given everybody comes from a different background and experience. Some people have already done a lot of international work and some are starting. I am sure there is something for everybody on this course. I think it is very important that the teachers get to lear new things for themselves too to set themselves in the position of a student. Rita's own exampe as a teacher is very inspiring to me. I am sure that this experience in Guadeloupe will results in something nice in my own work and in the future international projects. This course was the best Erasmus+ ka1 course so far for me. I have been on two courses earlier. The classrooms were in different locations on the island or the sea each day. I found it amazing. I think it made learning more interesting and profitable to be in different surroundings in the nature. I think it increases creativity and makes positive learning environment for students. This choice for classrooms is the best choice for this wonderful and exotic island. Thinking about language skills I learnt some French and used English as the main working language. For my work as a home economcs teacher I learned about food production and exotic ingredients in Guadeloupe. What is for more I was offered chances to interact with the locals. I will deffinately have these experiences integrated in my teaching. The topic of our school in this ongoing Erasmus+ ka1 project is a Wellbeing School through Innovative Thinking so this was a very good teacher tarining course for us. We achieved the goals of learning new, internationalization and globalization and much more. 😊

I find the course really professionally organized. The places for our sessions were really well chosen, because they give you energy and motivation to think, reconsider, to collect ideas, to find new connections, to find new ideas, to find reasons again, why do we do something in the classroom with the students, because with all our additional work, we forget sometimes, what is the purpose of our occupation. I want my students would find a challenge in learning, to be more aware of their identity, culture, to be proud on themselves, to be responsible global citizens. I need to be a good example of that, and that is what the course gave me. The strength for me was having the sessions outside of the four walls, organized as workshops. I am strengthened after the course in awareness of my own culture, the importance of it, even though we were discovering foreign cultures. I think I will now more easily pass and defend with more confidence important issues to our school headmaster, why should we go on with the school internationalisation. By taking this course I became more aware of my own identity, my own strengths, I feel the importance of my own culture, I got many ideas from Rita and other participants, how and why to go on with the internationalisation in our school. The surroundings filled me with positive energy for my future good work in educating young people.

This was my second Erasmus+ course and it is by far one of the best experiences in my professional career. These 10 days have been marvellous and I have learnt and experienced way more that I could have ever imagined in advance and in my wildest imagination! Guadeloupe is a wonderful place to learn about multiculturalism and global citizenship! People from different cultures and backgrounds are living together in peace despite the extremely difficult and violent history of this island. The heartwarming friendliness of people here has made a huge impression on me. This course has offered loads of new, mind blowing experiences. The nature of Guadeloupe is absolutely amazing! The walks in the rainforest, the impressive waterfalls, the underwater life and the small paradise islands have given me pure moments of happiness and fantastic ideas about open classrooms. Rita’s knowledge of culture, nature and different stories related to many topics is impressive. In addition, the course booklet offers lots of material for creating new international projects. It has been great to get to know colleagues from different countries and from my homecountry. Sharing ideas and perspectives made it possible to get a deeper understanding of all the topics on this course. The person who created the fantastic atmosphere and made this all possible is our intelligent, charismatic, deeply wise woman and truly a global citizen Rita. Her valuable ideas, concrete tips and most importantly, open and loving attitude towards everything and everybody is one of the greatest lessons I’ve learnt. Rita, thank you for this experience, you are my guru!

This was my first Erasmus+ course and it by far exceeded all my expectations. The outdoor setting on the beautiful, diverse island of Guadeloupe perfectly matches the title of the course. And Rita‘s passion for teaching, her zest for life, her knowledge and her authenticity were completely infectious. Talking to colleagues from Finland, Latvia and Slovenia was really inspiring since they already had much more experience in doing international projects in their schools. In addition, the course materials handed out by Rita contain a lot of useful information and provide some really good ideas of what schools can do with respect to internationalization and enhancing key competences. I now feel ready to inform my colleagues and infuse them with an international spirit. I definitely think this was one of the best courses I‘ve ever been on and it will be hard to top it.

This course has been absolutely the best course ever. Rita does her Job with her whole heart and she really knows what she is teaching for us. Rita is so experienced in all perspectives and she has very human and empathic way to see and teach things. She can also utilize the surroundings as it should be when we are in such an exotic island. Teaching outdoors and learning from the nature are most important things that I learned from this course. I will absolutely take my students more outdoors to learn. I learned so much about how our school could develop to be more international and how to teach my students to be more aware of globalization. Our group was easy to get along and work with. Athmosphere was all the time friendly and warm.

This course has been very versatile and interesting. I have learned a lot about how to incorporate global themes into the classroom. It was particularly beneficial to get practical ideas on both Erasmus-projects and developing key competences through an international and global perspective. As a language teacher I believe that culture is always connected to my subject but we could do much more in order to develop students' global citizenship skills. The session 7 "ideas for international activities" in the course booklet is very beneficial for developing projects we could do at school. There are many ideas I will suggest for my co-teacher when I get back. I have also enjoyed all our classroom locations. The places we have visited have always been connected to things we have talked about during the sessions e.g sustainable development, culture and heritage and cultural identity. It would have been a shame to come to a place like this and sit in a classroom inside. Now we have learned about the nature and history of Guadeloupe and the local people in much more depth. In addition, it has been great to talk to collegues from our country and abroad. To hear about successful Erasmus-projects and lesson activities, to make connections for future projects etc. The best Erasmus-course I have been on! Very well organised and great content.

The course I took here was one of the greatest of all Erasmus+ professional training events. I found this event valuable for several aspects: 1) excellent flow and exchange of information in the preparatory phase including useful course book that contains well written information on the topics covered in the course; 2) the course covered in detail very topical and much needed topics for our work at school- global citizenship, internationalization, project approach in teaching-learning process, etc.; 3) the course book was well developed and I will use it in my work process as well as in the dissemination events back home; 4) the course events were well organized and appropriate to the content and the location in Guadeloupe; 5) non-formal events, like tasting traditional dishes, visits to museums, parks, etc let me gather variety of ideas for my classes and turning the study process more fun and enjoyable for students; 6) very useful thought that made me think a lot was - happy and inspired teachers are what students benefit from the most! It is of utmost importance to invest in quality professional development and this course most definitely served this purpose. 7) Rita explained and encouraged us for successful Erasmus+ projects with the most important key aspects and details on filling out documentation; 8) very valuable material was on key competences that we are adapting in our school at the moment and this course gave me much needed insight from a different, much clearer perspective with lots of practical ideas. I will definitely bring this to my colleagues who are eager to find out more in a simple way.

The course was great and Rita (the organiser) is a real professional. There were a lot of pedagogigal discussions during the course, as well as changes of practices and customs in different countries and schools. Topics of the course were for example Global Citizenship, internationalization of schools, cultural diversity, good practices in schools, key competences and how to organize meaningful international projects. These are just to name a few examples of the topics we covered, there were several others as well. This course is also a very good option for a first-timer in Erasmus courses, because the lessons included a lot of tips for a good project, for the application and for how to make your whole school more international. Gueadeloupe is a perfect place to have this course. Our lessons were mostly held outside, in several different locations. The places we held our lessions were really inspiring and made it a lot of fun to study. During the course we had a good look of Guadeloupe, saw many interesting places and learned a lot about the Guadeloupean culture, lifestyle and history. Rita knows a lot about this place and it's people, and she has really interesting stories to tell. Even with the beautiful surroundings, the best you get out of this course is the contents. Thank you Rita!

In this course I have noticed that the learning environment means a lot in learning path. As a biology and geography teacher I teach a lot in outdoors but I often forget that learning needs also planned brakes. I have assumed that if you go outside, the student get more focused on learning because we leave the normal learning environment, classroom. Actually, when you go outside your senses get much more information from the environment and for the student it might be difficult to consentrate on subject if there is too many goals or activities to achieve. Downsifting would not do a harm to subject, if you set the goals in learning experiences more presice and give some time for learning event itself. During this course I have noticed that those little brakes after theory or conversations have been important for me because my brains are loaded full of ideas and arranging needs time. I do not consider myself as an creative person but I think the idea of downshifting would give me a lot as a teacher and also as a person. This course has also given me a much wider perspective to teach different cultures and how the cultures evolve. I have really loved those little conversations that I had with Rita; I also really like the way Rita has arrange this course; interacting with other teachers from Europe has confirmed me that our school is in the right path of internationalization. The themes that started from the form of my own identity was a route to myself, how I see myself as a global citizen. My eyes opened in so many different to multiculturalism and how i should take it into a count when I`m applying new Erasmus+ fundings to our school. I am also glad that I have made new friendships during this course. My door is open for every single one in Eastern part of Finland, if you are passing by. You are more than welcome :) And in the end, Guadeloupe has truly been a paradise island; high temperature, humidity, rainforests, volcanoes, coral reefs, mangroves, beautiful beaches, carnevals, french language and different variation of culture embodiments. What more can you ask, if you are a biology and geography teacher from the northern latitudes?

The course was genuinely one of the best courses I’ve attended. Rita is an excellent organizator. She covered a range of topics which appealed to everyone. I think everyone is going to take away some good action plans. I feel that I learnt a lot about school internationalization, multiculturalism, key competences and culture of Guadeloupe. Many things to think about from a new perspective. All topics were relevant to the “real world”. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting to get a real understanding of how to write a good international project and develop their own profesional skills. I REALLY enjoyed this course for many reasons. Firstly, for interacting with teachers from different countries who all have their own expierence and the same interest in Erasmus+ projects. Secondary, I liked that all our learning sessions were autdoor activities and there was a great balance between theory and practice. Thirdly, for opportunity to find out more about the nature and culture of Guadeloupe. Thanks, Rita!

This was the first time for me to be on a course with Erasmus. The experience I had I will never forget. The course was well organised and gave a good view of the contents. Because of the the possibility for interaction in different communication systems, questions that arose could be cleared directly. The course had a fine composition of theoretical input and practical experience. The field trips I found very inspiring. The strength of the course for one is the inside knowledge of Rita and the good connections she has to the residents. If one event she had planned couldn't take place there was always a plan B or even C. The experience I had on this course gave me a new few on Internationalisation on which I can follow up on. Futher more I find the course booklet very helpful. I enjoyed the course a lot. As well because we where a really nice group of people from different parts of Europe. Thank you Rita.

What have I learned on this course? This course has most of all clarified and organized my ideas, and given new information, about internationalization work in schools: the theory behind it, reasons, goals, methods, structure, possible activities. It will be very helpful when we plan and build up our future international projects in my organization. I also learned about this beautiful island, its history and present, nature and people. This was priceless, and a perfect platform to work around internationalization and global citizenship. And I got to meet and know many wonderful people: Rita, our teacher, and coursemates from three different European countries; our driver Michel, our drum teacher William, and many other warm and beautiful people on the island. I learned how to drum a few Caribbean rhythms, too. This was my favourite session, therefore the group photo with drums.

what I learnd in the course was a lot. At the beginning I don´t have had a clear idea what it could be. Now I´m realy inspired. Internationalizing is a very big theme. It contents a lot. The course informed me about skills like language, music and what culture contains. For me it was interesting that internationalizing is nothing you can do theoretical or that it is new and necessary to do, because we have to take part of our students from other countries. Yes this is one part. But the other part is that it is still working and also in the history has worked. So it is our life and we have to complete it in the following. By this it is possible to use the experts around us. All the students and parens and other cooperative partners. Let´s do!

This course gave me real insights into the culture and nature of Guadeloupe. The nature and culture of Guadeloupe is so colorful as the topic itself. Thus, it is a perfect surrounding for getting deeper into the topic of internationalization. The combination of theory and practical activities has been chosen very well and varied and that enables us to go back to our schools very motivated for further international projects. To become a global citizen means to keep his own roots and to enrich them through respect, tolerance and communication with people, regardless of their origin and culture. As a teacher we have the responsibility to enable our students to become such a global citizen. The course organisation by Rita was very professional. The choice of the outdoor classrooms like the rain forest or the beach garden or just the beach was absolutely perfect. Thank you very much and also thanks to Michel and all the other people who made the insight into the Guadeloupian culture possible. Five stars!!!

Experience in a faraway enough place I don’t ever forget. Course is good for everyone who is interested in increasing their school’s internationalization. I think I got new ideas and things to take with me to my school. It is valuable to share ideas with other teachers. The course was nicely balanced to getting to know Guadeloupe’s surroundings and course content and theories behind. Although there was some changes in the course plan (Isn’t there some in every course?) there was always plan B or C. :) We had time to concentrate to each subject and there weren’t any hurry. For me it was good to just let go and let things happen. I enjoyed a lot and had great time with our small group gathered together around Europe. Didn’t change a day away.

These courses have been extremely helpful to me. This is primarily because it has fostered a deep understanding of the importance of internationalism in educating and preparing students for life. Our school has a wide variety of activities related to international topics (projects, extracurricular events, university contacts, etc.), but these activities are more of an episodic, fragmentary. As a school principal, I came up with some very clear and simple ideas on how to develop an internationalization strategy that would include these activities, how to help the school project team develop projects, look for partners, organize activities. And most importantly, how to integrate internationalization as a global theme and challenge into school life. I really liked the well-organized learning: the prepared material helped me to prepare for the topic of the day, then to go deeper again, the active tasks encouraged the ideas I heard to be rethought and based on my own experience. The material will be very useful in developing and implementing internationalization policies at school. Very well organized learning time: discussing key ideas, taking time to prepare your presentation, discussing general remarks, in the evening each participant writes a day's reflection, we can all read, and supplement our thoughts with peer observations. Thank for colleges, which we were together all two weeks. The warm, humane, informal contact of course director Rita is another special experience… THANKS. Well, of course, the unique culture, nature, people of Guadeloupe... Amazing! Would definitely recommend the courses to educators, which I know.

I am sure that course in Guadeloupe was one of the most sustainable experiences I have ever had. In XXI century we get so many information which is coming from TV, radio, social media, etc, that sometimes we have no time to learn through experience, through explorying, through being and reflecting. In this courses there were two parts: 1) very strong theoretical basis about internacionalization which enables you to think about ,,why is it nessesary in the school?'' and ,,what can we do about that in our schools'', gives advices, examples how to do that; 2) and learning through exploring the island, which supllements your learning process. And it's a great way to show that learning and living are always nearby. I am happy about reflections which we needed to write after every session: it is very important part of the learning, because in such way you rethinking all the ideas, learning experience. It was great to be encouraged to start every morning with positive ideas. It was nice to meet new people - the course group was great as well. And much more great things... Thank you, Rita!

The course was by far the best one I've ever attended and the material and activities were well chosen. The outdoor classrooms were amazing and learning in such a new and different environment really left an impression none of us will ever forget. The implementation of a theoretical concept like internationalization into practical use and real-life activities was really exciting and fun to do and I got some really great ideas for future projects in our school. Every day we learned something new and bit by bit the pieces came together into actual ideas. In this case traveling was diving into the culture of Guadeloupe and it gave us a unique insight into experiencing learning in a new environment.

In this course we were able to gain insights into the culture and nature of this beautiful country in a variety of ways that will never be possible for a normal tourist. In the encounters with the people the music and the food helped to understand each other quickly. Guadeloupe is a prime example of how people of different skin colours live together in harmony and self-evidently. Nevertheless, it became clear how different people can be in the Caribbean compared to other European countries. In the course we exchanged intensively, how then the education of our pupils to tolerant humans in a globalisierten world could succeed. Furthermore, we became aware of how important the awareness of one's own identity and nationality is as a foundation for peaceful coexistence with the various cultures. It is central to discover similarities, to make common experiences. The audit of the international status of the school made us aware of much of what we are already working successfully and showed us further possibilities for action. Only in very many small steps can we prepare young people for the challenges of the globalized world. It is also important to win over parents and teachers and motivate them anew. It is a peace-building task for all educators. The fact that the EU offers such courses is very far-sighted and has a lasting effect. The course organisation and implementation by Rita was extremely prudent, versatile and professional.

Starting with the clarification of one's own personality through the name, the cultural circle and the personal environment, we arrived at multiculturalism. Guadeloupe in particular is a very good example of this multiculturalism, as we experienced in the ACTe Memorial. The introduction to the local localities in different levels up to Creole cuisine with cooking on the beach showed us the whole variety of culinary food. Besides the food we gained a great insight into the nature of the islands. In a garden we could marvel at the variety of the fauna. In addition we could admire natural spectacles in the rain forest. A small insight into the economy of the island, especially the tradition of sugar cane cultivation and rum production showed the importance of the island. The mixture of the different peoples on Guadeloupe found its expression in a special music, which is to be found only on the island. At a drum workshop we could try out the different rhythms. To become a citizen of the world does not mean to give out one's own identity, on the contrary, everyone should keep his roots. What is important is mutual respect and tolarance in dealing with other people, regardless of their faith or culture. As a teacher, who has the handling and the influence on the future global citizen, it is the responsibility of the individual to equip his students with the appropriate skills. The course itself was very well organized, the tools were excellent. The teacher convinced with great commitment.

The course fullfilled for more than 100 percent my expectations. The course is centered about the issues raised by the EU2020 .I have a wide number of knowledge and competence now to modernise our school curriculum regarding internationalisitation strategies and european objectives.Due to the group work and discussions I learned about how to learn by myself, how to apply new teaching methods, how to organize projects on EU level and I improved my digital competences. Rita is my role model on organising and structuring our lessons in the different classrooms with the open doors. She showed me a deep understanding of national identity in Guadeloupe .Eveything is connected and life becomes unbalanced when we remove inportant things.I learned also a lot of french and english with having fun and joy.I learned from Rita that joy and own motivation can be very useful to get projects into process and work on them.

Whatever expectations a have had to the course in prior they have all been exceeded. So of course, I’ve heard of some topics the course deals with and I thought I knew them and their meaning, but the course enhanced my comprehension so much. As the globalisation of the world goes ahead more rapidly with every day it will definitely have an impact on schools. As a teacher you must learn how to deal with the pupils with different cultural backgrounds in a profitable way not only for any other pupils but for the whole society. The course puts me in the position to understand backgrounds and meanings of the terms identity and culture as they mean much more as I thought. Knowing that every identity and every culture consists of different traits, that are common to all the people all over the world, there will always be a way even to link people from different cultures together. This serves as a basis not only for mutual understanding – many cultures have found a way of mutual understanding. But to really profit from the different cultures you need to be open minded and need to understand what culture means, to develop your own culture and don’t stuck in the past. Futhermore the course gives me an idea how much can be done if only one person shares his ideas as change always needs someone who is brave enough to talk about his ideas. And when one realizes that talking about ideas is only a small step all of us can do even a little change. I now feel more than ever able to foster my pupils to be aware of their own identity, of their cultural background, to their growing responsibility as a global citizen. As teachers we must help them doing their steps into a global world where one must deal with rapid change and must be open minded as otherwise one would hardly be able to profit from what a global world can offer you. Never forget, that all you are doing has an impact on the world.

For me the most important aspect of this course has been more aware of the importance of combining the internationalization of the curriculum and to preserve our national identity. I do think this course has been perfect because it has had a good balance between the outdoor activities and the work on the materials (booklet). Thank very much to Rita and Michele for all their efforts in organizing this wonderful course.

What a great course and experience! Because everything was so well organized, through experience we were able to learn a great deal of Caribbean culture (The main method of this course was LTE, Learning Through Experience). We learned to play Gwo-Ka rhythms with drums, make sugar cane juice and prepare Creole (local meal), just to mention a few. Guadeloupe's main language is French. Luckily we studied it also. By visiting different places such as rain forest, islands and plantations we learned a lot about local nature, plants and fruits. We also visited the Memorial ACTe, which is a Caribbean Centre of Expression and Memory of Slavery & the Slave Trade. It was eye-opening. Locals in Sainte Anne were very polite and I felt safe the whole trip. Anyway, the best thing for me was studying by the Caribbean sea!

The course exceeded my expectations in so many ways. I don't even think I am exaggerating too much if I say it was a life changing experience.... We saw, tried, experienced and learnt so many different things: the history (e. g. Museum, the problem of a single story, the resilience and the power of the people, the emergence of a new culture), the theorie and the importance of internationalisation, the culture (e.g. music, cooking), the nature (symbiosis in the rainforest as a metaphor for society, the hidden secrets in the sea if you have a closer look by snorkeling...) and the people and their way of living and their attitude towards life (thank you especially Rita, and also Michel, Georges, William, Jordan). "Just do it", start and live your ideas, the others will follow. We experienced that in so many different ways and on so many levels (cognitive and emotional and by experiencing and doing it). Just do it - it was not only a saying (because we all know this phrase by heart not only because it is an advert of a well-known sports manufacturer) - but it was a true ACTION. Understand, care, act. This is was counts. For me, my favorite phrases that people were saying: Just do it. Dance as if no one is watching. Enjoy. Live in your time. The others will follow your example. But don't stress - il n'a que le citron qui se presse.

All  the contents worked on in the course surpass the expectations of my formation here in Guadeloupe. This course has perfectly linked the contents to work with the island's space resources. Once again Rita has shown how to squeeze a country to full effect in a short time with an impressive organization. At all times has been concerned about our expectations, interests, prior knowledge ... and has adapted to perfection. The strength of the course are the following: it allows you to learn from local people by learning from what you would get as a simple tourist;  the learnings are not given in classrooms but in the exterior ones;  the course is adapted to each of the participants; As aspects to improve I highlight the following: to be able to follow the explanations in English, taking into account that my English is still much better, I would like to have visual support during the explanations.  Also, I would have liked to have a little more free time during the afternoons since at 7 o'clock in the afternoon here it is very dark and you can not go out for a walk, buy, or get fresh air. Guadalupe is much more than beaches and sun.  This course gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Guadalupan culture and thus know that cultural and natural heritage they have.  Four pieces of fresh clothes and only a little mosquito repellent will be enough to start this adventure with Rita.  With this course the dresscode is the swimsuit.  It's the second course I do with Rita and I hope it's not the last one.  His exhaustive organization of the entire course gives you confidence and security, which is appreciated thousands of miles from home. In addition, I have to thank Rita for being so patient with my level of English and explaining everything as many times as I have needed.  Thanks again for this opportunity.

The organization of the course has excellent. Rita had every last organized detail. Personally, it has surprised me every day. This course has exceeded my expectations and I will recommend it to my Erasmus colleagues. I would emphasize that the sessions have been outside the classroom and this has made them very motivating. The course has a very deep sense about the culture of Guadalupe. Thanks to the activities programmed in each session we have been able to know first hand and with native people the traditions and the most emblematic places of the culture of Guadalupe. Regarding the course, it is difficult to improve anything because it has been perfect. On a personal level, I have to improve my English to understand more about Rita's explanations that I found very interesting and complete. I would advise future participants of this course to take into account all the recommendations that Rita sends. These facilitate the day to day and you know at every moment what you have to carry. Important to look at it before traveling to put in the suitcase all the "kit". And what I would most recommend is that you come with a great adventurous spirit and eager to enjoy the culture of Guadalupe. It will be one of the most impressive trips you make in your life thanks to Erasmus.

"A classroom with a door ti the word"...Just the course's name can describe all the activities we did. The main theme of the course was the internationalization of curriculum and we talked about all the topic inclusion in it: national identity, multiculturalism, Global citizenship, international policy, the quality of education and we also did some activities very useful for us because with the other members we shared our thoughts, our feeling and our experiences. In my opinion this course is well organizer and full of interesting activities; I learnt a lot and I appreciated all moments, we worked in a relaxed atmosphere and we also enjoined the environment. As a members of a geographical association i think this course will give us the opportunity to grow up as association; we could use all the knowledge I acquired ti male something new. Our teacher Rita Is a wonderful person, she is a positive woman, She was Aldo clear when She explained as all the different themes. She also taught us a lot of things about Guadeloupe and we had french lesson very useful. We Met very nice people during the course. I'm grateful for this opportunity.

Before we came here I expected to get a little impression of the island and a first idea of organising an international project. But I learnt A LOT more! Of course I learnt a lot about the culture of Guadeloupe, the specifics and why it become like that. And every time I got know something new it hit me like I was really impressed. I think Guadeloupe is a great place to learn how Multiculturalism can work and become something wonderful. That doesn’t mean everything is fine and there are no problems or challenges still going on, but it hasn’t to be finished know. The process is still going on! And beside this, I learnt a lot about me, my habits and traditions and how important it is to have a national identity. I think this is a very important point of view that I will take with me: you have to work on yourself first if you want to develop a multicultural community! During all the times I really enjoyed the discussing within our group. It felt always appreciative! In my opinion this is very important because this course is not only about getting knowledge, it is more about the attitude. And so sharing ideas and perspectives made it possible to get a deeper understanding and develop an even bigger learning effects. So it will not be a single story telling and I am sure there will be new classrooms with an open door to the world.

First of all I have to say that Guadeloupe is a perfect location for a course about internationalisation, with its long and extraordinarily complex history of encounter and collision between so many different civilizations, which includes the local cultures (Arawaks and Caribes), the Europeans (Spanish, French, British) and the Blacks from west Africa. It is, of course, also a history of violence, as clearly displayed in the museum we visited in Pointe-à-Pitre, so we understood what we could call the dark side of internationalisation (that is, colonization, exploitation and destruction of the environment) too. The course itself proved extremely interesting and useful, and I go back home with the head full of ideas for new activities we can organize with our Association, ranging from innovative approach excursions to using new tools to better explore the impact of migrations on both the sending and the receiving countries and societies. I also appreciated very much the good company and Rita's professionalism and kindness. Many thanks to Michel and his friends too. I definitely want to come back to Guadeloupe!

What have I learned from this Erasmus+-course? Well, I didn't have a lot of expectations before I came here. I wanted to take a course in a French speaking country and Guadeloupe was an obvious choice :) The topic was interesting and suitable, so why not. The course frame didn't look so strict which was surprising. On the course I realized soon that it was an important part of the course plan. There was no concrete classroom like on other Erasmus+-training courses I have participated before. We basically changed the classroom every session. The course material and the theoretical background was there I we obliged to study and discuss it thoroughly. Still, the trainer didn't give us any lectures and or work was mainly about discussing the topics in pairs or in the group. The size of the group was very compact. There were no exhausting tasks and because of the small size of the group the discussions and statements of each participant were easy and interesting to follow. Besides the themes of the course I got good tips for my teaching too. The methods were very good and I liked to relaxed way of the trainer. She could keep it brief and prompt and left us space and time to reflect our thoughts. The reflection part on Twinspace was a good way to make a revision and make us think. We didn't just get new ideas how to make our school more international but we also got concrete examples and now we know the ways to go on. The French booklet was useful and I will use it in my classes. As I am a French teacher I was sceptic about the French lessons but it was useful. The whole course was well organized, with some Caribbean vibes.. l My overall rating on the course is very good.

This course about internationalisation of curriculum was so well-built! The themes and how they were approached, the substances of the sessions and all these practical tools we were given is great. Theoretical backround and daily activities went hand in hand. Amount of members made it possible to make long conversations, share things and ideas, compare practises we have in our own schools. With these tools I think I can improve the international activities in my own school and encourage my collegues to join these activities (witch I find extremely important and meaninfull these days) Raising the global citizes will be our most relevant task in the future. The surrounding of this course is magnificient and it is linked into all activities in a great way! We truly had " a classroom with a door to the world" in all possible meanings and our sessions here demonstated well what is learnig through experiencies. Timetables were well balanced and all the safety and comfort aspects were well taken care of. Thank you all participants and organizer for sharing this experince with me!

I am more than happy and grateful that I got the opportunity to take part in the course: „A classroom with a door to the world.“ After these two weeks, i feel personally empowered and enabled to establish and further develop the international work of my school. Each detail of the course, the content of the lessons, the outdoor classrooms, the experiences and the teachers and guides participating, is thoughtfully picked out by the brilliant course leader Rita. It took me far from my comfort zone into an area of deep learning. The information that is given during the course is on a high-level and it was very enriching to share expertise and insights with teachers from all over Europe. Thank you very much for that! I appreciate and value the knowledge and inspiring ideas that we shared with each other and am excited to take them back to my students and colleagues. After this experience I feel personally changed in some ways. I was already considering myself a cosmopolite and open minded person person before. But experiencing first-hand what it feels like to come to a different culture that makes the greatest effort- from shop keeper to special needs teacher- to make every member of society welcome and cared for- i strongly feel that I can do a lot more to enforce that same effort in myself and my community. I now have a clear vision of why it is important to develop a „global citizen“- mindset and how it feels to be an inclusive society. Thank you from my deepest heart for that life-changing lesson!

I have become a bit picky when it comes to these courses. It is a lot of money and I want value for that so I expect the course to push my school and me to higher levels. The topics of this course seemed to be able to do that and in retrospective they did that. More than that, they gave a lot more. I liked the setup with tools to meet multiculturism and to make my school more international (in a planned and organized way). Other than that I got to see and experience nature and a culture very different from mine. In a way this course is a total experience compared to more traditional courses. I also liked the fact that we were expected to learn some local language. Every now and then you need a push to get started. You never know what kind of group you have but I feel that I was very lucky with this one. Maybe a smaller group can get close more easily or was it just remarkable good comanions? I don't know but that was a big thing for our discussions. It also became very clear that Rita knows what she is talking about. So all honour to her for executing this course.

We had a fantastic two weeks filled with many different and interesting content. These included the contents of the Teacher Professional Development Course, as well as intensive insights into the history and culture of Guadeloupe. There were also lessons in French creole Culture and Cuisine. The aim of internationalization and modernization of curriculum to develop the key competences was the basis of the course. A particularly intensive cooperation of the participants from different countries was also the common cooking. We improved our management and staff competences. , learned about about innovative teaching methods respectively the European dimension integrated into curriculum. We improved a bit our language competences and learned a lot about cooperation with partners from other countries. This includes creating projects and an increasing quality in the preparation and implementation of international projects. Learning with all senses includes the local food ;-)

The course was a fundamental experience for me. To live on an island where literally everything is different from what you are used to, climate, nature, culture, the enormous mix of influences from practically all over the world, all that was the perfect setting for a course which has the aim of creating an international, transcultural awareness. The world doesn't consist of countries and cultures that are independent from each other. There is a global interdependence. We have to be aware of our own identity and see and accept others without anyone feeling feeling superior. It will be a long way to reach that aim but we as teachers have a special responsibility there. Last but not least I would like to say thank you to everyone who contributed to the planning and realisation of the course in particular Rita. You have done a great job!

I had a wonderful time in Guadeloupe. From the very first beginning Rita's organization was just perfect and she created such a good learning atmosphere. Actually, it was the first time in my life that I really had the experience of learning by doing, seeing, feeling (in the context of a class of course). Everybody in school is always talking about not simply learning facts but to really experience the topic in which you want to improve - and that's what we did in Guadeloupe. We experienced what multiculturalism means and that helped me a lot in my teacher life but also in my personal life. Besides that we got a lot of information about how to make your school international. I will come home with a real plan to present to my colleagues. We will directly be able to start making our school more international- with small projects in our everyday lessons and with bigger projects which we will plan in the following month. I am really happy about my experience in Guadeloupe and I think I will return to Germany being a better teacher than I was before. Thank you!

It touched me deeply inside and told me if you wanted to change something, if you wanted to participate in a process, if you wanted to go with your students on their way into a global world, then do it - now! I had the opportunity to experience the great culture and landscape of Guadeloupe. It was just amazing. I will come again! I will recommend the course to my best colleagues so that they can have exactly the same great experiences as I do and pick up this huge amount of motivation here in Guadeloupe personally. It was wonderful to work with colleagues from other countries, to find out what projects they were working on and what problems and solutions they had. I am confident and hopeful that we will make good progress in the internationalization of curricula and international cooperation. We must help our students to find their place in a globalised world and to build their future world worth living in. Rita - thank you very much. It was a perfect organization, a great experience. The idea of a classroom in various, beautiful places - brilliant. I am delighted with everyday’s diversity - so many beautiful places, so many fantastic people I’ve met. The course "A classroom with a door to the world" - discussions, activities very valuable to me. Certainly sessions trained by Rita will be unforgettable. Without any doubts this course "A classroom with a door to the world" (by Rita!) I will recommend to everyone indeed!

A Classroom with the Door to the World was a wonderful experience for me. I can truly say that it is the best Erasmus course I’ve ever attended. Thanks to Rita, the organizer and all the other people of the staff who helped us carry out the activities. And thanks to the magic scenery of Guadeloupe rich in impressive sandy beaches and gorgeous rainforests. Everything was perfectly organized. I’ll remember the drum session, the trip to to little ilet de Gosier and Ilet de I’ll Caret start writing my new Erasmus K1 and K2 projects taking into account all the lessons we studied and practiced together: key competences, PBL, Internationalization of the Curriculum.

This course was really interesting because of the social scale of the project (meeting people from other countries) and the professional one. I’ve learnt that internationalization can be promoted working on different levels: 1. Local school networks 2. National school networks 3. International school networks This will be helpful in developing national and local curriculums, thanks to the support of mucipalities and other institutions. In order to implement internationalization, we need to develop students’ skills through foreign language teaching. Exchange programmes and mobilities, together with specific classroom activities, are good at contrasting stereotypes and prejudices. The staff need to be properly trained according to international competencies as a whole. This experience was outstanding!

The course focused on internationalisation of curriculum and national identity and the dilemma of balancing them both. Alongside, the interactive French language learning activities gave the opportunity to refresh the language within an authentic environment. The course brilliantly demostrated how internationalisation of the curriculum enhances national identity developing a sense of tolerance and acceptance at the same time. It gave me very clear tools on how to prepare, implement and monitor international projects and how to reinforce cooperation with international partners. Most of all Rita Stoskiene was excellent in exceeding my expectations in all possible ways; I learnt much more about myself, others and nature; I learnt the size the moment and fully benefit from the fantastic sourroundigs; I met extraordinary people willing to share. Once in a life chance! Thank you!

It has been a really good course that I have learned a lot from. We have come across some really good topics that are useful in my own teaching with the youngest students. The subject of identity was exciting and reached everyone can benefit from, and accepting oneself to accept others. It is important to take responsibility for their own actions both in the environment and towards others both those who are close to oneself and people in other cultures. Having experienced the nature and culture of Guadeloupe has provided an insight into another way of living one that I live, it has been healthy and clearly reached I can bring to myself and my teaching. Having experienced the course with Rikke means that together we can come up with new ideas for the international work at our school. I have also got a new look at a classroom, it is useful to take students and learn from their watered environment (the classroom) and out into nature., Down to the floor, or as we make use of movement reached more in teaching

A classroom with a door to the world has been a great course for me. I have learned about the nature, history, environment and the culture of Guadeloupe. Intellectually I have learned about geography, language and culture. Personally I have broadened my mind and developed personally. I have friends in Guadeloupe. Meeting them here and feeling the welcoming atmosphere has been a great experience for me. I enjoyed to taste specialities, served by friendly people in the most wonderful locations. I bring home good memories, nice recipes and a lot of ideas for new international projects. From the course material we got from Rita, our course organizer, it's easy for me to bring activities directly into my classroom. I really want to share my knowledge with my students and colleagues at my school in Denmark.

Roberta Session 9 A class with a door to the world ... yes this was precisely this Erasmus in Guadaloupe. A door that has been opened and beyond which an exciting path has come to life from a human and professional point of view. The coordinator of the course, Rita, turned out to be a very competent professional, with a great experiential background. She is a good motivator, she launches original stimuli on which to reflect, she manages to get you on tiptoe and with great respect in the culture of Guadaloupe, The sessions were all interesting and offered useful material for a relapse in their school, lessons , in close contact with nature, with the places and with the locals, have taken on a very strong multicultural aspect. The chosen itineraries allowed to reconstruct the Guadaloupe stora and its traditions. Interesting the exchange with the other participants, each with their own experiences has opened the mind to new ideas. Very useful was also the mini French course that allowed easier communication on the spot. The door today only closes virtually, in reality the experience will remain "open" forever everyone's experience is everyone's treasure

Rosanna Session 9 This was one of the most interesting and engaging courses I have ever done in my school career. All the topics covered were interesting and useful, faced with great competence and originality, in fantastic places, beyond my imagination! Every place I visited struck and fascinated me: the beaches, the Creole farm, the islands, the waterfalls ... and the lessons, immersed in nature, were a unique and enchanting experience. I learned a lot about the history, traditions and culture of Guadaloupe, a country so far unknown to me. I was very impressed by the visit to the Memorial Acte on slavery, a painful and shameful page of our history, but also in general the lifestyle of the people of Guadaloupe, far from the stressful patterns of life in Europe and very close to nature and ancient wisdom of tradition. The session dedicated to music was also very engaging ... I never thought I could play a drum !!! All the lessons of the course have shown me how important it is to work in a motivating environment to achieve meaningful, deep and lasting learning. The course has been organized very well, Rita is really a special person, very prepared and competent, listening to her lessons was really pleasant, beyond the didactic contents, she manages to transmit positive energy and tranquility. I really feel like thanking you for all that you have taught me in these weeks and I hope to be able to return here again in this wonderful land. “Every time we learn something new, we ourselves become something new”

What an amazing teacher’s education! Ten days full of experiences and feeling the nature of Guadeloupe. I came here to learn language and aware my understanding of outdoorlearning. These two aims in my mind I can say I’ve reached those and got a lot more. My language skills got better in numerous discussions with European group of teachers. We started by reflecting on our identity as human beings and at the same time expanding our understanding of national identity and ourselves as a European teacher. This course learned me how important is the way how person thinks and acts. During the course I have also learned to fall into the moment while I was often in the situations and I didn’t knew where I’m going to. Feeling of jumping to the sea from the boat in Caribbean sea aiming to snorkle. I felt strong excitement but when you had done it, you got so much courage. It almost felt like you were winning a competition. I also learned how positive teacher example affects to students. I’m going to concern that in my lessons at home in Helsinki. I hope that my pupils will have more positive and relaxed teacher after this course. I hope I got tools to avoid stress and most important avoid feeling of hurry at my workplace. I promise I will let them more time to wonder environment while we have lessons outside.

The most rewarding parts of the course were the session 1, 2 and 3. The basic theory of what is internalization and how it relates to national identity, multiculturalism and music: the cultural context. It made you realize how big a part in your development does your culture play. These themes erased good discussions and new ideas for my school work when thinking of interacting with various cultural and ethnic minorities at school. And as a cherry on the top was the gwoka music session with the drums which made us again to remember the importance of the balance between theory and practice, studying and action. That should be remembered also in our daily classwork, too. Also session 4 What does it mean to be a global citizen? gave a lot of topics to think and rethink of the matters concerning civic skills once again. Actually nothing new but reorganizing once again your thoughts. What is needed to do to sustain our planet for everyone here now and also for the becoming generations? The phrase “Think globally, act locally” expresses the most important main idea in a nutshell as well as the five global themes for international learning: - identity and belonging - sustainable living - conflict and peace - fairness and equality and - rights and responsibilities. Session 5, audit template showed us that is our school so much has already been done. And very many of the acts have become already very natural and obvious, as parts of our everyday life. It is always good to think and rethink what has already been done for to continuing it. That template will be a good tool to build on when thinking of the possible future acts. Session 6, internationalizing the curriculum was also something to take right away to your daily work for just to evaluate the curriculum of own school. And the international policy template was again a good tool when starting an international project. Session 7 included key competences. It was clarifying to discuss activities that develop key competences. It came out how many different things you can include into your international projects. Just your imagination draws the line. So many subject related things as well as matters related to the transversal skills. The smaller units as well as projects that last for years. This brain storming was a good beginning when thinking of beginning of an international co-operation project. The theme getting into international school projects included important information which comes in use when starting a project. We got a bigger picture and some important details also. The aims 1-4 were fulfilled in this course as I expected. Much to think about, a lot of reorganizing your thoughts and valid information to use. The aim 5, was language learning. My English skills got some very good practice during this course when reading the materials, discussing with the others during the sessions and while interacting with the others during the free moments. It was funny though that even the pupils at school gave us more opportunities to speak English than French. They were so eager to show the English skills of their own, like greeting and counting the numbers. The French quiz was great fun although I could have payed more attention to my French studies during the course. Self studying was maybe not the best way for studying a language for me. So, my feelings after the course are very positive. It was worth to come as far as to the beautiful Guadeloupe to have in-service training after working for almost 42 years at school. A good boost for the rest of the years.

The dichotomy "national identity vs. internationalisation" is a very important subject for our school. So I was really looking forward to the course and arrived with big expectations. As a start Rita turned all individual participants into a real group. All of the lessons led us to more depth concerning our topic. It was very well conceived starting with lots of practical cultural experiences before getting to more theoretically based work. Then it was quite useful to be given some time to work on our audit template and our school policy: now we have the perfect base to go on with the establishing of Global Learning in our school. This course was surely the best I have ever had. All of the activities were so well planned, thought through and perfectly set to an arrangement by Rita. All of the places we visited with her were just overwhelming. I loved to work together with every member of our group: so also the networking was a huge success

This course raises very important questions. How to make your school more international and how to recognize your national identity in the global world. Some of the outcomes of this course were: improved management and staff competences, European dimension integrated into curriculum, modernized curriculum, organisation of teaching, training and learning on EU level. I found these outcomes very important for my school and for the aims that we want to accomplish. All of the topics throughout the course were carefully selected and presented in a very creative way. I liked that every place Rita took us had a meaning for the topic and was an introduction to the topic. By learning about history and culture of Guadeloupe we learned a lot about ourselves. A lot of practical work makes this course interesting and inspiring. There will be so many things that I will be able to use in my classroom and share with my colleagues. The most important part for me and my school is learning how to write an audit and how to internationalize the school’s curriculum. Advice that we got how to improve our eTwinning and Erasmus projects are a great help. A well explained role of international coordinator is something we really needed. Overall opinion of this past two weeks is that this is one of the best courses I attended and I have gained a lot of knowledge.

This has been the best course I have ever done as well for myself as for my school. I have been doing projects for a long time always being under stress to find out what I am expected to do and feeling some kind of blurriness in my head when it comes to getting a golden thread into the project. Rita was the best person ever to explain all the little bits and pieces going from personal identity to internationalisation of the curriculum. I know project life will get a lot easier for me by getting colleagues on board. I know I will be able to get them involved. I know students, teachers and the entire school will profit from this course. Furthermore I once more met colleagues from other countries who are as devoted to teaching as I am. We set up contacts and decided on further little meetings. Somehow teachers all over the world seem to have a common aim: making an impact on young people to make the world a better place.

What did I learn? Our first lesson at the beach was an awesome experience. I might say quite a powerful one. We had a nice conversation and delicious international meal and at the same time we could get to know each other. We were talking about internationalization and national identity. The nametask was interesting. I am going to use it with my pupils and students as well. I noticed quite soon that stepping out of the daily routines gave me much energy. I also felt more creative. I do have to learn to be more open-minded and flexible but I even started to do some plans for the springtime at school with my colleges. I``´` ve learned a lot of the history of the island. And it is, for sure, touching. I` ve been thinking several times of the slavery. It was quite horrible to imagine that human cargo coming from the sea. It is very difficult to understand thinks that happened during those years but we do have lots of terrible things in our history made by human being. I do hope that my generation could do better and I do hope that my children could live in a better world. Music is connecting people. We all had that experience when we tried to make music together. Quite challenging rhythms was not easy to learn but hard efforts were rewarded and we could reflect our huge (:D) success with each other. It occurred to me once again that listening is not my way to learn. I preferer seeing and doing. Day after day we went to places I have never even dreamed of. Scottham & al. (2009) says that a powerful experience in a supportive environment can promote deep learning which has a life-long impact. This trip has offered me plenty of powerful experiences. I have also learned many things but maybe the most important one is to understand that it is I myself with whom I have to start to work first. Before I can transform the world, I must transform myself. It won`´``` t be easy but I am already on my way, although at the beginning of the journey.

A classroom with a door to the world: Internationalization and modernisation of curriculum. Aims of the cource: Early childhood education and early school living. Key competences Analysing internationalization strategy Explore various methods and tools shaping internationalisation policy Language learning and teachers continuous professional development French learning activities Lots of ambitious goals that I went to experience and achieve here. At the same time it feels awful and good that our courses have now been completed. There have been so many different things that could not even be imagined in advance. Being away from home far away gives you the necessary distance to your life and your own culture. The nature and lifestyle of Guadeloupe impressed me. Heat, sun, small country, homely, opposites, joyful people, unstressfull lifestyle… Rita, you had a fine and versatile course. You demand a lot from us and maybe because of that we got a lot of it too. All the preparatory work was done well and for the best of all of us. There is already a lot of internationalization in my own school. Making it visible is important. A lot of thoughts, ideas, as well as a strengthening of the work in own school and the other schools on a larger scale, arose from the discussions. In my opinion it was lovely to work in different learning environments. On the other hand it is a small thing but on the other hand everything in the student's life. Thank you Guadeloupe. I got a lot of what I can share.

I knew I was coming to an amazing place but did not know I was going to meet amazing people as well. From day one at our first classroom on the beach where we had an international lunch, the foods and drinks from our country we all got on really well which made this experience all the more enjoyable. Having 5 different countries represented gave another dimension to a multi perspective view on our discussions, views and ideas. Everyday we went to a different location on the island, each one beautiful, from the organic gardens, the beaches to the waterfalls. Each place took my breath away, I was loving being in these stunning place to study and then soon realised there was an underlying reason for Rita choosing these places, not just because they are beautiful, there was always a link to that days learning which embedded the learning more. ( Tell me and I forget. show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand. With her calm organised approach Rita made the course enjoyable, giving us an insight into Guadeloupean life, history and culture leading to meaningful multi perspective discussions which made you reflect and evaluate what you do. I also admire my fellow colleagues as the course was in english and they had to interpret and process the material. Michel was always helpful and entertaining often testing and correcting our spoken French as well as an excellent barbecue chef. Between him and Rita they gave us an enriching experience. The group from Germany, Poland, Greece, Lithuania and U.K. all bonded really well which made this experience all the more enjoyable... global colleges now global friends and school connections. The course made me reflect on our school and all international work we do and I am extremely proud. I already do a lot of work linked with the U.N Global goals and now I have lots of new ideas to take back. Thank you Rita you are an inspiration and thank you beautiful people of Guadeloupe who welcomed us with open arms into their amazing cultural land.

I was really satisfied with the course. First of all, the organisation of the course was very good. The plan sent in advance could be relied on. There was one change which was directly communicated. The content of the course met the expectations evoked on school education gateway. The topics were well-prepared and showed a variety of perspectives (historical developments in Guadeloupe, cultural background, artistic aspects like traditional music, Erasmus projects and aims and practical examples from school life. The changing of the classrooms was very motivating. We not only talked about the history of Guadeloupe but we could have a concrete experience in the impressing museum in Pointe-à-Pitre. The consequences of such an extraordinary historical development could be seen today. Thanks to our motivated, motivating and competent head of course who had a lot of good ideas, made suggestions and led us with consummate ease. The practise-orientation of the course was very valuable. There was a lot of exchange between the teachers so that we could learn from each other. As the communication during the project was mainly in English I could improve my English skills. As Guadeloupe is a French speaking country my French skills were trained as well. Listening to Creole and reading Creole signs was also interesting and challenging. The group of teachers had to use TwinSpace for the daily reflection which helped me to get used to this platform, although I could not solve all of my problems with the handling of tablet and platform. All in all, a wonderful, inspiring experience in an amazing part of the global village.

The course 'A Classroom with a Door to the World' has been outstanding! The teaching, outdoor classrooms, learning experiences, setting and cultural experiences have been unique and unforgettable! As I look back on the course, I realise the progress that I have made with my understanding of internationalisation of the curriculum, national identity and the importance of helping children to become global citizens that 'know, care and act'. The course has inspired me and given me the knowledge and understanding to take action at school. Guadeloupe has been a stunning place to attend a course! The outdoor classrooms have been in beautiful settings. The cultural experiences have allowed me to find out more about this wonderful country and I have enjoyed the opportunity to learn french. The course has been organised exceptionally well. The teaching and resources have been so thorough and detailed. A total of 10 sessions on internationalization and multiculturalism have been held in one of the most beautiful regions of France. Based on the fact that Guadeloupe is one of the most ethnically diverse cultures, the training took place here. Intense moments to get to know this diverse culture have been made tangible through the content of the program. Whether it is to learn about the way of life of the Caribbean on the medium of music or in the museum to understand the history of the slave trade and to learn something about the plant and animal life of Guadeloupe, all these are the peculiarities of everyday life of the Caribbean "Way of Life".

A Classroom with a Door to the World is a great course that every teacher should attend. It has given me a better understanding of internationalism and what it means to be a global citizen. During the course I had an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Guadeloupe and understand how a multicultural society can exist in peace. We had contact with local people and had a chance to get to know the country better. The reflections I was required to do every day allowed me to understand how important it is to internationalize the school curriculums in order to help my students become global citizens. It also let me analyse the purpose of each point of the programme and appreciate the course even more. I highly recommend this course to all teachers that would like to broaden their knowledge on multiculturalism and international projects such as eTwinning and Erasmus+.

After almost two weeks in Guadeloupe it is difficult to look back as the end of the course comes quickly. I expected some nice and warm days on a tropical island and I hoped to have an idea of the lifestyle on this caribbean island. Actually all my expectations are topped and I make a lot of great and unique experiences thanks to Rita and all the people we met during our activities. To talk to the local people like Marie-Laure, George, Willian and the teachers and pupil in school gave me the possibility to learn about their culture and their way of life with is much more combined to the nature than ours in Europe. There was always a warm and friendly atmosphere in our group. It is a joy to learn from the other participants and to change thoughts. The most amazing fact is the excellent choice of the classrooms offering the opportunities to visit Guadeloupe to see a lot of great places (beaches, rain forest, Kreole gardens, school, mangroves). With the self study and the theory work to the international curriculum we learned a lot and in the same moment we visited a lot of cultural places. Thank you for the exceptional organisation to Rita and Michel. I really appreciate the course and I am sure coming back again. Stefan

And during this course I got all of those and much more. People here in Guadeloupe are so nice, polite and friendly and I felt me so comfortable to be here. The course is the best course that I have attended from previous 6 other courses. The material was given before travelling. The organisation was excellent with well balanced time for work, discussions, self-study and free time. The materials that we study are ready to be used at school on return. This is not the case that I have experienced during some of the other courses. The very interesting part of the course was proposed self-study french language vocabulary forcing us to communicate with local people more. During the last day visit to the school the children made a quiz and tested our knowledge. This was a very rewarding experience for us and the children. The work is very useful and it is possible to implement into our school curriculum with the support from our administration staff. The connections with the other course participants already gave us a lot of ideas for the future projects that we were able to discuss in greater details. The knowledge that I gained raised many questions that I would like to explore in greater detail using other courses to make our international work with the pupils stronger. I was lucky to be able to attend this course with two other colleagues from my school. We made a strong team still having different insights into the topics we have studied. This will also have an impact on return as it will be easier to persuade the other colleagues to join international projects.

Participating Erasmus+ course in Guadeloupe was a brilliant idea! Exploring this beautiful island and studying many things from building identity to internationalisation was a memorable experience. Each day’s classroom was definitely a door to the world as the name of this course ”A Classroom with a door to the World” promised. Every day we went to different spot on the island, we had lessons on the beach, on the small coral island, in rainforest, in the local garden, in museum, school visit ect. Topics of the each day were always connected to the places we were. Guadeloupe is paradise with beautiful nature, interesting culture, friendly people and unfortunately rude history. During the course we had time to discuss with other participants and plan international future projects. I would warmly recommend this course! Guadeloupean atmosphere is unique!

This was an amazing experience in the wonderland. During this course I learnt many new things about the people, the nature, customs and traditions of Guadeloupe. The Memorial ACTe Museum visit gave incredible insight into the background. I understood that learning can happen at unconventional places which enhances the motivation and engages into deeper learning. During the course I improved my organisational skills on classroom management at the same time engaging but giving enough freedom to accept responsibility. I found many professional friends and shared a lot of ideas for methods and strategies in the classroom. I gained reassurance that I am on the right path developing young people to become responsible global citizens. The living environment were perfect allowing enough space for getting deeper insight into the local culture and at the same time giving possibilities to work on the course materials.

For me I could see the progression of learning on this course as each session built upon the learning from the previous one. Hence the expectations of the course were clearly met. It became even clearer to me that national identity can be enhanced by the internationalisation of the curriculum. By encouraging children to understand their own identity it is then easier for them to develop senses of tolerance for others. Respect for all is a strong part of the ethos at our school in the UK. The title for the course “ A Classroom with a Door to the World “ is so apt when we were presented with an amazing new classroom setting every day . Not easy to replicate but there are simple changes that can be made to our teaching and learning environments. Simply changing the layout of tables, sitting on cushions on the floor or working more outside can enhance children’s learning and maintain engagement . Focusing on building children’s 8 competences which are embedded into our curriculum can easily be integrated into an international project . I have seen the benefits of this with the projects that I have been involved with already . Having this chance to exchange ideas face to face will make this even easier in the future and this has been a great strength of the course. I felt the balance between the more formal discussion and the less formal opportunities that we were given allowed for a really positive exchange of ideas and ethos. It did help to reaffirm my educational pedagogy and beliefs in the importance of a creative approach to teaching whilst at the same time seeing how the curriculum can be enhanced through international projects . Allowing children to become the global citizens of tomorrow. Another strength for me was in session 5 whereby we were given a great link to the British Council resources . Something I know that I will tap into. Gaining an insight into how important it is to teach children how to learn ( the Finish model) and focus on the process of learning and not just outcomes is something I really want to discuss back at school in the Uk. I have been truly inspired by this course and did feel lucky that it was easy for me to access as it was presented in English . As always it is so amazing to see how other teachers are so enthusiastic and competent when speaking English. I really enjoyed practicing my French and feel I have made progress with my communication over the last two weeks. I would advise all participants to embrace all aspects and dimensions of this course. Interact with others, ask questions and assimilate all aspects of the discussion. Thank you Rita for your attention to detail, your calm approach and insightful discussion . I feel that I will return to school full of enthusiasm and ideas to integrate internationalisation strategies even further in school.

Each day we learnt something new which was layered from the previous days learning. I noticed this from the outset and related it to how we should be aware of our own identity and then relate that with the national identity and then with our international identity. Through this model children learn to become global citizens and as we all know the world is becoming a smaller place... Being part of this course has inspired me to continue with all of the international work that we do back at school and reaffirmed my core values as a teacher. Creative teaching and learning and being able to understand the process behind the understanding is so important. Teaching children how to communicate and not being afraid to ask questions is imperative to their development of being a global citizen. The name of this course 'A classroom with a door to the world' was just perfect. Each day we had a new classroom setting which took my breath away. We didn't need materialistic things to create a learning space, beautiful nature and breath taking views inspired me to think creatively and further my understanding of internationalism. The clarity and expectations of the course were met and the setting was beautiful beyond my imagination! The resources provided and the different classroom setting each day was a real strength of the course. No two days were the same on this course and it was inspirational, however I would say that anyone wanting to participate on this course needs a good level of fitness especially on the day trekking through the rainforest! I found that particularly challenging. I felt I was at an advantage as the course was delivered in English and felt so much respect for the teachers that came from Finland and Lithuania. They had to process their learning and interpret their understanding in English. If you were thinking about participating on this course I would definitely highly recommend it! Thank you Rita for inspiring me over the last 10 days and putting me in contact with inspirational teachers from across the world.

This course was in many ways very memorable and instructive. I got ready for the course by getting to know the pre-sent material. The topics were very important in our work. Our school has been working for only six years and we are at the beginning of international work. The course inspired me to reflect on my own national identity in relation to others. The museum visit made a deep impression on me and raised my interest to explore more history. We visited each day a different place in the island and the ”so-called classroom” changed every day. We explored the island's wildlife and sights. It was great to sit, for example, on the beach and talk about topical issues. I really enjoy these conversations, warm and beautiful nature with amazing views. I did not know a word about French when I came to the course. I learned the basics during the course. I can now make purchases in French and I understand a little bit of French. French lessons were nice, funny and useful. All in all, the course was more than I expected. Stunning nature, great cultural experiences (drums, music), comfortable schedule and a well-organized course were truly memorable. Guadeloupe is always in my heart as the best Erasmus experience.

It was a great experience for me to take part in this course. Learning and enjoying was perfect combined. The organisation was brilliant. Every day we stayed in an other classroom in different places of Guadeloupe. It was incredible. To meet George, Marie-Laure or staff and pupils at school was the most interesting and important part of the course and an unforgettable and extraordinary experience for me. Rita and Michel, two very sympathetic persons, create a welcome atmosphere. I will take a lot of ideas and motivation back to our school.

The course is eminently practical because it allows us to be in touch every day with the multiculturalism, nature, history, customs and traditions of this island. The theory that comes in the booklet allows us to reflect on the situation in which our school is at the level of internationalization and gives us many ideas to improve the documents related to the development of key competences and the activities to achieve them. Of course this course awares me to discuss and write a good international school policy. Enjoy from the first moment with Rita and Michel who will give you a warm welcome and will accompany you during two intense weeks. Thank you very much.

The course progressed well from identity to culture and finally to multiculturalism. During the course we had magnificent classrooms where we learnt how important internationalization is for the schools. I guess the participants have already known that. We have had more or less experience with international projects and sharing that experience was enriching. Being from different countries and have a colleague of the same school with me helped to sort out all the ideas we shared and came up. The challenge for us teachers is to get our students and colleagues as enthusiastic about international projects as we have been. I can highly recommend the course to other teachers if you want get out of your straitjacket feel the open space, meet open-minded people and feel what is possible. Thank you!

The course has been enriching in many different ways. The contents have been carefully planned to take us step by step to the course target. It gave us insight in culture and identity, in multicultural and international learning issues. It took us to different outdoor classrooms with great talk, while enjoying the view, the nature or the water. Rita provided us with answers to our many questions. Especially the personal experience enriched the experience. Also the talk among the participants has been very enlightening. Now we have concrete ideas and plans how to start and improve international projects. Our motivation is raised and we see the overall benefit of this course to our school project which is to enhance internationality.

Organised and clear content presentation. Presented multiculturalism in a multicultural cultural; requiring reflexion on one own culture. Most “classrooms” really gave “a door to the world”, because of their unique outdoor location, because of the reflexion it required, because of its unique impact on participants. It really focused on the importance of project for the all community (pupils, teacher and local community). When participants have an open mind they’ll realise that multiculture is all around us. Integration and acceptance of the other requires acceptance of ourselves. Fell the culture, enjoy…

A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. (O.W. Holmes) This is where the journey of discovery ends ... on Guadeloupe at least. After ten days of discussions we are ready to go home and start implementing what we've learned on the course. We now all know how to write an international policy for our school and what kinds of projects are suitable for Erasmus+. We brainstormed on various projects and can take the next step of actually creating a new project at our school. The articles and the reflections made us aware of what kind of teachers we are and in what way we can improve ourselves when it comes to teaching our pupils on how to become a global citizen. The reflections were a key part of our learning process. Without mulling over our experiences one might mistake these past ten days as a holiday rather than a 100 hour course. I imagine my classes will change in the sense that I will shift a little of my focus from English language teaching to internationlisation in my classroom. In the past I discussed cultural differences on an infrequent basis, next year I am going to make a conscious effort in adding international topics in the regular English classes. The teachers of English on this course already discussed the possibility of incorporating a new project in a particular year. The door has been opened; now it is up to us to keep it open.

Guadeloupe is a great island, with a lot of marine wildlife which I enjoyed to the fullest! The course on internationalization and creating international projects was well developed. I enjoyed how it started with the theoretical building blocks, than went on to the broader picture and finally it became more practical and gave us a scaffold for writing an international project. Being in Guadeloupe and submerged in a completely different culture really strengthened in particular the first part of this course, where we were learning about identity, culture and global citizenship. It has also been a massive help in improving my French, through the course, but maybe even more importantly through interacting with locals and hearing French all around me. The locations have been breathtaking, some of the beaches we visited appeared to be straight out of a travel brochure and that has been a great experience for me. I would have never visited an island like this myself for a holiday, which means that the course has given me an experience that I would otherwise have never had and we all grow and learn through new experiences. The mentality of the people and the pace of life in Guadeloupe is that different from the Netherlands, that being here has really giving me insights that will help me in dealing with partner school from other European countries. As I wrote in my last reflection as well, I really do think my future project will be better because of this course and I further believe that I will be a better supervisor/guide when taking students on foreign trips for it. As I already wrote in my very first reflection, I think we need to be more aware that time with students in the hotel or at a restaurant during these trips are also teaching times. I think that because of this course, I’ll miss less opportunities to actually teach students something.

It Has been a very intense course where I have reflected on the identity of each one, belonging to one or more cultures, the need to train global citizens with competencies and skills that help them integrate into this increasingly globalized world. Thanks to the contents of The course II have gone deeper into internationalization policies and how to develop them in my school. The location of the course has been a present for the senses, absolutely overwhelming. The methodology based on experiential learning where classes were opened to The World. the classroom has been an example of how school can be motivating and fun.

Reading the material, engaging with the locals and my fellow colleagues has definitely broadened my horizon and I feel as if I am more aware of the concept of internalization and of course guiding my students to become global citizens. Now I find myself continuously coming up with new topics for projects.

The French lessons have made me realized the importance of speaking the native language, or at least showing the locals that you’re willing to make an effort. Whenever I forced myself to use a French sentence, a smile emerged on the faces of my listeners and they openend up to me.

As mentioned before, Guadeloupe is very important to the overall experience. Even though the island is very much part of the European Union, it also feels as a separate nation of its own. With its own rules, heritage, customs and cuisine, dislike anything else in Europe. This melting pot of cultures provides the perfect background for becoming more aware of the impact mixing backgrounds have on the national identity.

The experiences, reading, interaction with locals/Fredo/Rita/fellow participants, and the surroundings we were in shaped me more than I might have realized at the start. Making sure to be honest to myself about what I wanted to learn, but also honest about how all those elements I mentioned changed me, have made the trip both enriching to myself and I can only imagine my teaching as well. The course material is something I'll bring home with me and will probably often use as a reference work in the projects I'll participate in or will initiate. I especially enjoyed the article that prefaced the five dimensions. I realized that respect for other cultures and truly accepting other cultures should only go as far. As soon as cultural practices and stances impact other people's rights you should seriously evaluate whether you should continue accepting it. Education will go a long way in changing those practices without damaging cultural diversity. Interaction with the locals has been an absolute joy. I've never quite been scared of or demeaning to those who might seem alien to others. Rita helped me realize that cultural and racial differences here impact the way people react to you. To lessen that impact I have to be aware to always approach others without prejudice, not just through intent, but also through the language I use and the time and attention I give them.

The course “a classroom with a door to the world” gave me a better view of internationalisation. Previously, I only thought of projects and was not aware of how many other activities there were. Think of themes in classes, visits to other Dutch schools, contact between schools abroad, guest speakers in school, etc. After this course, we have become more aware of how and what to do in internationalisation in our own lessons. I notice that I'm often unconsciously busy with internationalisation. After this course, I want to do more focused assignments and discuss them more in lesson. For my subject (German) I often have texts with certain themes or chapters that contain a particular theme. Here I could do a lot more than I did in recent years. We also got a better idea of setting up projects and the terms that are associated with it. Except the theory, we have also been able to experience much of the daily life of Guadeloupe. I learned a lot about culture, nature, eating habits, etc. I like to get to know other cultures because it will be easier to understand humanity. The theory we had to read was sometimes difficult, especially because of the English language that I do not control very well. Therefore, it took a little more time to understand the texts, but in the end I found it all clear. What I was particularly happy with were the examples. We certainly learned a lot from each other. Everyone has different ideas and everyone is doing something with internationalisation. Together we have a lot of knowledge and through this course we have had the time to share this and, if necessary, think about improvements. Thanks to Rita and Fredo, we also had more chance of contacting the locals and seeing certain sides of the island that you would never see as a tourist.

Outdoor lessons have had lot of interesting thoughts and opinions. French lessons have not been too stressful, but we still learnt a lot of new words of the language.
