EUROCLIO Summer School: Diverity and Violence: Rethinking Approaches in History Education

The Summer School seeks to combine educators working in history and heritage through interactive workshops on innovative on-site learning. Last year the organisers put great care into setting up an intensive and rich programme to which a wide range of local and international experts contribute. This year it will be no different, and EUROCLIO is working hard to compile an attractive programme.
It will be a capacity-building event providing transnational transfer of knowledge and experience. We hope that through lectures, workshops, discussion groups and study visits, participating history and heritage educators will be stimulated to implement innovative teaching practices in their classroom and/or museum/site/institute and to work towards a framework for a common approach for dealing with history. Participants will improve their knowledge of cultures and get acquainted with new educational contents, services, and methods.
During this Summer School, participants will explore the issues of diversity and remembrance in history education. They will have a chance to engage both with the educational rationale and teaching approaches to history of cooperation between different social groups, as well as with portrayals of intergroup conflicts and mass violence. Finally, interrelations between remembrance and history education will be examined. Building on the rich history and cultural heritage of the region, participants will be able to take part in different formats of exchange and learning and attend lectures, workshops, and study visits to schools, relevant NGOs, memorial sites and museums.
