We came from the Sea (1)
The Mediterranean Sea has played an extraordinary role in history. It has been and it is a space of communication among three continents, that allowed the spread of knowledge, cultures and religions. Through the sea Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Muslims, Crusaders, Aragones, Venetians, Byzantines, Ottomans and others fought and interchanged their trade, wisdom, customs, discoveries and often cruelty. Our 'western' civilisation and society, with its wider influence, is unthinkable without these encounters.
Sailing and navigation were a crucial factors in this exchange. Therefore this course will take place on a sailing ship. Starting from Mallorca we will discover the wide range of peoples and influences that once came from the sea and left their traces in this western part of the Mediterraneo, Thalassa, Mare Nostrum, Akdeniz, HaYam Hagadol.
