Crossing the Baltic Borders - from Vilnius to Tallinn

The Baltic Way or Baltic Chain (also Chain of Freedom) was a peaceful political demonstration that occurred on 23 August 1989. Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning 675.5 kilometres across the three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, considered at the time to be constituent republics of the Soviet Union. It was a peaceful protest against illegal Soviet occupation, and also one of the earliest and longest unbroken human chains in history.

The Chain project in general tries to bring knowledge and understanding about European cultural heritage, in its divergence, its coherence and its interdependence with other parts of the world. In this course we will travel through these three Baltic countries, studying similarities and differences - in language and literature, architecture, religion, art and other aspects of their cultural heritage. We will study cultural heritage of three Baltic countries and express our experience in various forms: theater, painting, singing etc.
