STEM (Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics)

Rating: 0/5

This programme has two aspects:

1. STEM (Science , Technology, Engineering and Maths) is a programme which encourages young people to develop interest and skills in these areas, with the emphasis on research, enquiry, and practical interaction. The sessions include developing projects appropriate for the age group taught and encouraging in students leadership and collaboration skills.
These seminars are led by teachers of Biology/Ecology; Chemistry; Physics, Engineering and Mathematics, and cooperating closely as a team.
The aim is to make learning fun, and to draw upon the rich resources for STEM both locally in Oxford , and nationally (www.stem.org.uk), which provides excellent resource information.

2. Working closely with the STEM team are trainers of teachers in general Methodology, Language and Communication Skills. These CLIL programmes are tailored to meet the needs of the group or individual teachers, but in general they involve seminars in teaching practice, classroom management, lesson planning , resources etc. These lessons are taught by specialists in English Language.
CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) is increasingly popular in European schools and colleges. The aim is to teach both the subject and the language …in the words of the British Council “Using language to learn, learning to use language”.
