Course Description

This course has been created for teachers and staff who want to learn more about what Mindfulness is, how it can benefit both their students and themselves, and how it can best be integrated into their schools.

By establishing a firm foundation in their own self-practice throughout the course, participants will learn how Mindfulness can be cultivated in a practical, hands-on way. Course participants will be encouraged to keep a journal of their experiences that will provide insight even after the course has finished, and help motivate them to continue their own practice.

By the end of this course, participants will have established their own Mindfulness practice, having experienced its benefits first-hand. Participants will leave the course with a toolbox of Mindfulness practices that they can use in their classrooms. They will have gained an understanding of how these practices can be adapted to their individual student populations, and how they can be introduced to students unfamiliar with Mindfulness. Finally, they will have a firm grasp of how Mindfulness practices can have a positive effect on their own and their students’ mood, ability to focus, stress levels, and communication.

I attended the course Mindfulness for teachers: a hand-on approach in Florence and I expected mindfulness techniques for working with children at school. the trainer was based on yoga and presented the settings of the 7 pillars of mindfulness according to Jon Kabatt Zinn. During the course, we did not go into the depth of the settings, everything was superficial without explanation. What does it mean to be in the moment? Observe what ? Allow what? I would have a particular objection to the preparatory email when she informed us to dress comfortably, and immediately we were supposed to lie on the floor and do yoga exercises without warming up the body. She didn't warn us that we have to take off our shoes in the gym, which is a problem for me due to health problems in the bladder area, even though it was 42 degrees. We told her that yoga is not mindfulness, but also that we are not allowed to do yoga at school. parents don't want Hindu philosophy in school and that's why we need to base it on scientific principles of mindfulness that include other techniques. even at the end of the course, I didn't know what practical mindfulness was when working with children

I am not satisfied with the course because the focus was on yoga, and yoga not mindfulness. the trainer did not tell us that we should bring sports clothes and that we will be barefoot during the entire course. we lay on deckchairs without towels, which I think is not hygienic and not good for foot hygiene. I didn't understand what mindfulness actually is until the end of the course
