Las Otras Orillas (The other shores)

Rating: 5/54 users

One of the main themes in the chain programme is cultural interaction between Europe and other parts of the world. (European) culture can only be defined as the outcome of various influences, within Europe itself and between Europe and its neighbour countries/continents. Therefore various travelling courses are being held to study this cultural interaction. The Sevilla course fits into this theme: Las Otras Orillas. How is Europe being influenced by and how does Europe influence the 'other shores': Mediterranean and Atlantic? Sevilla is a central and symbolic location to concentrate on this issue.
Seas, like rivers, can be bastions or bridges. Is there a cultural entity north and south of Gibraltar street? To embody the the course theme, part of the course will take place in Northern Africa in the perspective of cultural interaction with the south of Spain:
Europe 'and' la otra orilla or Europe 'as' la otra orilla.

An excellent course that offers a critical look and reflection on the history and major landmark events that have also affected the Europe we know today. The experience was also enriched by Claudia's extraordinary knowledge of history. I would also like to emphasize the excellent leadership and organization of CHAIN, which, with its wisdom and sleekness, has made sure that we all keep Seville in a lasting and indelible memory.

"Las otras orillas" was an impressive course with many valuable insights. The excursions, the creative tasks as well as the encounters with different people and various aspects from different cultures made this course a very fruitful (If at times strenuous) experience.

I attended the session from November 2015. It is a very special experience for those who are interested in nonformal learning, learning through dramatic techniques or those interested about experiencial learning. It fits, also, on outdoor methodology.
