Special Needs Education: A step-by-step approach

Rating: 4/59 users

Students with special educational needs deserve the best education we can give them. The teaching methods have to be designed in such a way so that those students can benefit from their time in school. In most countries, teachers do not have the appropriate education to handle that kind of teaching.
This course seeks to fill the gap and give to the participants the skills and the knowledge to handle students with special needs in their classroom. In our approach the focus is on teacher attitude and activity in the school.
The participants will have the opportunity to visit a special needs school, talk and interact with the educational staff, observe the lessons and more.
The course leads to a Level 7 EQC Certificate, accompanied by a Europass Certicicate Supplement with 10 transferable ECVET points.

I liked the course. We learned a lot about special needs education. I believe that many of the activities that we learned, are good for our students. It was very good that we had cultural activities, such as greek dances, city tour, visit of Ancient Messini, that helped us to learn more about Kalamata and Greece and to be together with participants from other courses. The teachers and the staff were kind and friendly. The city is a nice, calm and I enjoyed the local food. Finally, I stayed at the recommended hotel which is opposite a nice beach, so I had the chance on my free time to enjoy the sun!

More than anything else, the course was very motivating and gave me a solid base to build upon. In our inclusive classrooms we are all trying to find solutions to challenging situations which is not always easy. The blend of lectures and activities helped me learn to prepare better materials for my disadvantaged students and to discover more efficient ways of teaching. I loved the way each learning difficulty is approached. The organization was perfect, and Kalamata as our host city was a great choice.

Course was well prepared and all the activities took place as planned. I liked that there were activities planned for the course to get to know the local culture as well. The trainers were active in their field and shared their practical experiences.

Participating in this course was an opportunity for us, as teachers, because sometimes we do not feel that we are prepared enough to work with students with special needs. Thanks to this course, we learned about the Greek inclusive education model and about including students with special needs in mainstream education. We have learned about ICT tools to ease the learning process. We exchanged good practices with teachers from other countries from the UE. We highly recommend Areadne Lifelong Learning Centre.

Since I did not have any previous knowledge on this topic, I learned quite a lot of useful things during this course, I got numerous ideas for activities with special needs students and I leaned how I can make my classroom a more inclusive one. I had the opportunity to meet colleagues from other European countries and to exchange ideas and good practices.

Dear Greet, thank you for your comment! As this is a training course and not a job shadowing, we try to keep structured study visits to a reasonable number which will not interfere with your course and overall experience! However, we are able to help you organize a job shadowing with a local school at the same time with your course, if you're so interested! Thanks again for your comment and opportunity to clarify our services! Best, the Areadne team
