Requirements: Basic computer proficiency
Today’s writing has extended to the digital world. Digital publishing offers new ways to express context: blogs, wikis, forums, portfolios, multimedia, websites, and so on. Accordingly, writing skills no longer exclusively concern the contexts covered by traditional education, such as the writing of essays or reports. Instead, they require contemporary writers to adapt their content to digital spaces, such as blogs, websites, and web pages.
This course will prepare the participants to use one of the world’s most common digital publishing tools , i.e., WordPress. WordPress is free and open-source, and it facilitates the creation of a website using stunning templates and widgets.
Participants need no prior knowledge of coding or website design! They will learn to master the technical and functional aspects of WordPress directly during the course.
Participants will learn to create online forms, besides improving their understanding of multimedia content by merging text, photography, and videos. They will be allowed to work on the idea of a website of their own, and will have the opportunity to bring their own material (e.g., pictures, videos, text) to support the process.
With the help of the instructor, they will create their own website from the start and enrich it with multimedia content. They will also learn to use templates and widgets to make the webpage more interesting.
Participants will also discuss how to use self-published websites in educational activities. The possibilities are very promising. Letting students publish their work online is a very effective means to motivate them. Moreover, publishing a classroom website constitutes a good possibility for collaborating online, providing students with mutual support and recognition.
By the end of the course, participants will know how to create different types of web pages with WordPress. In addition, they will be ready to manage a website, for instance controlling user access and viewing user statistics. They will be ready to create simple and functional websites to the benefit of their educational activities.
