We live in a society where migrations and the consequent encounter and clash among different cultures has become extremely relevant and shall be at the top of public stakeholders’ priorities.
One of the biggest challenges for teachers and the education system is to be equipped to face newly arrived students, who may have experienced great distress and confront obstacles in adjusting to a new cultural environment. Promoting intercultural education and training intercultural competences becomes therefore crucial to manage the encounter and possible conflicts arising from cultural differences.
Modelling empathic, critically-thinking and open minds contributes to shape welcoming school environments, where cultural diversity is promoted and celebrated, and the first step towards bringing social change and inclusive societies. Participating in this course teachers and education staff will share and discuss challenges, best practices and strategies to facing, acknowledging and celebrating interculturality in the classroom.
This course aims to help teachers to develop their cultural awareness while giving them the tools and new approaches to cater to a multicultural and ethnically diverse group of students. Thanks to this course, the participants will:
- Confront and understand the mechanisms behind head-on stereotypes and personal prejudices;
- Improve their cultural awareness and intercultural competences;
- Explore and value different points of view through simulation exercises and storytelling;
- Learn new approaches to education that can be applied to culturally diverse classrooms;
- Know more about teachers' role in the integration process of immigrant or foreign children;
- Exchange good practices and discuss challenges with fellow colleagues and the course trainers.
This course is addressed to eachers, trainers, educational counsellors, career counsellors, school psychologists, headmasters, school management and administrative staff working in primary schools, secondary schools, vocational schools, training centres, adult education institutions, kindergartens and pre-primary schools, higher education institutions, and NGOs.

The course i have attended was very interesting and engaging. Based on modern pedagogical learning theories and with many daily activities it was a pleasant surprise for me. He dealt with difficult cases of refugee or immigrant students, which we often face in schools in Greece due to the large volume of immigration flows to Europe, in search of a better future. We participated experientially in the form of simulations and based on the group-cooperative teaching method with the other teachers from other European countries (Italy-Romania-Austria-Portugal-Greece). Through virtual workshops and simulating specific situations, each time defined by our trainers, we were able to understand them, see with their own eyes and feel like them. Thus, with different ways of approach and communication each time, we were able to provide solutions that satisfied their needs but also to spread communication bridges to make the approach of cultures and their mixing a reality. The teaching staff was impeccably trained, with a professional attitude, and positive energy. Pleasant, friendly and willing to help us with whatever was needed. The promoter offered us a series of innovative and practical courses tailored to educators, especially teachers. The pedagogical methods used are based on experiential education, learning by doing and the exchange of best practices. The day's program included theory and lots of simulation activities. The next day the program started with activities to review the material taught the previous day. The activities during the lessons were many, original and interesting. Our participation took place in groups with a different composition each time, based on the team-collaborative, experiential model of teaching and learning.
