Course: Structured Educational Visit to Schools/Institutes & Training Seminars in FINLAND

Rating: 5/522 users

This structured course efficiently combines pedagogic visits to schools/institutes, workshops and seminars. That is why this programme is implemented during the academic term, when schools and institutes can show the vibrancy of their daily life and operation.

Please note that this programme should be included as a Structured Course in your application to Erasmus+ KA1.

Participants will enjoy opportunities to meet and interact with teachers, head teachers or principals, etc.; to discover educational institutions in a variety of sectors (primary, secondary, vocational, adult lifelong learning, etc.); to experience a powerful and unique school culture; to network and possibly form reliable partnerships leading to possible Key Action 2 projects, etc.

English Matters will select a number of educational institutions related to the participants’ educational level so that they should benefit better from a wider selection of good teaching practices. This model has shown to be highly satisfactory for both the visiting teachers and the institutions visited. Everyone participating in this experience will receive maximum benefit from it. This will support the European Dimension in Education within a sense of community.

The seminars and workshops will help participants to better enhance their learning in a friendly forum for discussion and exchange about education systems, the culture of the host country, and educational topics of general interest. Also, Field Projects (“Contexts4Content”) to places of natural, historical and cultural significance will provide a solid base for development of teaching resources.

Fees: 490€ tuition and 130€ org.costs-field projects

I would like to thank English Matters for the wonderful experience and the great opportunity it gave the participants in the course to enrich our historical and cultural awareness of Finland and to benefit from the concepts of teaching and learning through our structured educational visits to schools in Helsinki. Thank you for the excellent organization and the warm atmosphere throughout the whole course. Thank you for the chance you gave us to make new friends and potential new Erasmus+ partnerships. It was precious time spent with precious people! Thank you!

English Matters is a professional provider that keeps the programme they promise. The organisers were at the spot in Helsinki so they know very well what is happening during the course. Everyone can check their Facebook to see things. I had done it befire ordering the course, as an Erasmus coordinator in our school. The structured course with schools and educational visits is a course where one must find his own accommodation, this is different from methodological courses, but it was not a problem. I found a stay in Eurohostel in Helsinki, which is near the Market Square in the city centre. The course gave me an opportunity to see Finnish schools, education section in the National Museum in Helsinki, in my free time I went to galleries, museums too. I visited three schools : a basic school and two secondary schools. At first I was not happy to go to a basic school as I am a secondary-school teacher but in the end it really gave me a broader picture. The teacher spoke to us there, had a clear presentation. During the week I could learn a lot of things about the history and culture of Filnad, plus the languages spoken there. I could make links between these and the current state of the education. I had done research before going to the course in Helsinki and an electronic presentation about the Finnish education for being remade after I come back and shared with colleagues, which I can recommend to everyone so that they can get the most out of the stay and already know things, have questions prepared. You can learn more then from the visit I would say and do your own specific research. We teachers would appreciate to have more time to discuss things together, but in one week it is not much possible, as there are lectures, visits, work on a team presentation. I was really tired every evening as it is intensive and you absorb a lot of info. I did not like that some teachers were leaving earlier on the last day, Saturday, they did not hear everyone's presentation then. They presented among the first ones, of course. However, I find it inappropriate, towards the organisers and colleagues. But they may have had no other flights. It is possible. I can recommend this course to teachers and schools' principals who are interested in educational systems in another European country. In Helsinki, Finland, you may find out that on the Internet there are spread several myths about the Finnish education that actually create a different picture due to the medias coverage. English Matters have created a great study opportunity for teachers. In Helsinki the course was attended by more than a 100 teachers, I guess, from 10 different countries.

I have attended a structured course that combined theoretical seminars with visits to schools and institutes. The visits have been very interesting and productive, the context seminars also, although some management and organization seminars could have been facilitated by email. Overall, it has been a very interesting and enriching experience.

The course was a fantastic experience and I learned a lot. I really enjoyed and found extremelly useful the visits to schools and the seminars on Finnish education and history as well as some of the field projets. However, I found the first day sessions (from 16:30 to 21:00) too long and tiring. I think that some of the information given there related to organization of groups, transport... could have been sent to us beforehand by email. Moreover, I think communication would have been easier if there had been less people.

I learnt a lot from this course. Not only from the Finnish Educational System but also from the educational systems of the other countries that had teachers there. It made me realise that some things I can change and do better but some things I cannot.

It was a great experience. I went to three different Finnish schools and I learnt a lot about them. However I think there were too many people (about 120). I would prefer to visit more schools instead some of the seminars or fields projects.

Dear Antonia Thank you for your comment. We are glad that you enjoyed our course. As you know, the visiting groups to schools are composed of about 20 participants from different nationalities. The total number of participants from 10 different countries in the whole programme are grouped together in specific activities. This is very important to promote networking and the European dimension in Education that Erasmus+ courses should include. Seminars and Field projects create a framework of understanding of the Finnish Education System. Seminars deal with the structured of Educational System and the history of the country while field projects help participants to experience on site the culture of the country in order to enable them to create teaching resources for their students. We hope to see you soon in other of our programmes.

The course is very well organised and all the lectures, fieldtrips and visits are extremely relevant to our learning. However I felt that comunication between participants would benefit from having a smaller rather than 120 people at the same time.

Despite the high number of participants (120 people, from 12 countries), it was very well structured because subgroups were formed based on needs and characteristics of participants. Very well organized and really an effective spotlight on Finnish culture, society and educational system!

Very interesting and well - organized training course. It gave us a lot of information about Finnish society, history, culture, and educational system. The most important; the educational visits to different types of schools!

An intensive course which provides a deep insight on the educational system of Finnland . The schools visited were some way different so that we could compare them. I also found the seminars very interesting, giving us key ideas about Finnish society, history and culture. I also had the chance to meet colleagues from other countries with whom to start future European projects. All in all, very satisfactory.

Very interesting and well designed the educational visits to schools. Seminars to know Finnish history, culture and contemporary educational system could be organized in a more structured way. However, the course was very satisfaying.
