Designing Inclusive Learning Environments (ILE) to Support all Students (DILEs) - Florence

Inclusive education can be seen as a process of strengthening the capacity of an educational system to reach out to all learners in the community.

This course has been tailored for teachers dealing with classroom diversity and disadvantaged learners, including those with special educational needs or a migrant background.
Specifically, participants will acquire or improve their knowledge regarding:
- Defining inclusive education, key principles and values
- Understanding the process of inclusion/Addressing barriers to participation, learning and resources to support all students within schools
- Designing lessons and activities to support increasing diversity in contemporary classrooms (e.g. adaptations to ensure access to curricula, differentiated lessons and activities, authentic/alternative assessment tools)
- Using ICT tools to support all learners in inclusive settings
- Collaboration within school communities (teachers, teaching assistants, students, parents/carers) in order to establish a framework of inclusive values and practices (e.g. co-teaching involving a general education and a special education teacher)

Upon completion of the course, participants using reflective instruments such as “Index for Inclusion” are expected to develop learning strategies, techniques and resources through a range of practical activities (e.g. case studies, hands on activities) aiming towards enhancing participation, learning and achievement for all students in sustainable educational environments.

All our courses in Florence include: 2 City Guided Tours of Florence and a 1 day Tuscan Excursion to be chosen among options.

The course gave an interesting overview of different problems teachers face when trying to create inclusive learning environments. The teacher of the course is really enthousiastic and knows a lot about the subject. The course is interactive and the students are able to give much input. One week is not long enough to discuss and try out possible solutions in depth.

This is the first course I participated in as part of an Erasmus + school mobility project. The experience was a special one, the quality of education and the organizational support being at the highest levels. I recommend attending such courses where seriousness prevails!

For the first time I did Erasmus. I loved the experience both at the level of the organization and the contents. The trainer provided an ative dynamic of group reflection. The trip in the surroundings was also very interesting. Congratulations!!

A remarkable course that helps every teacher to perceive the significance of inclusive education and the strategies that are needed to support diversity that arises in every classroom. Through interaction within the group a high level of combining theory and practice is achieved by designing several activities and lesson plans that ensure access to curricula for all our students. Surely my experience last April in 2016 was so motivating that I would suggest it strongly to all other collegues!
