Use of ICT in Special Education
Information and Communication Technology includes a number of technology like mobile
technology, blogs, personal web pages, video games, audio... Besides, we can say that ICT is a kind of
information technological tools which help to students’ learning in many ways. So, with ICT, students
can learn more effectively and they can reach to a larger number of students. Also, ICT can overcome
more easily to difficulties in Special Education.
This course is kind of teacher training course which helps to teachers become aware about students’
needs and integrated them to the education with the ICT.
Theoretical and practical information about ICT tools that can be used in class environment will be
given for each course day. Different ice-breaker activities are designed in different themes. In the
following areas; 10 in total, each day less than 1 ice crusher activity is planned.
3 teams in 6 categories:
1. Indoor activities,
2. Outdoor activities
3. Project workshops
4. Music activities
5. Sports events
6. Art activities
The pedagogical effects of ICT and the application of these methods to classroom environments will
be done interactively with the activities.

Day 1
 Introduction meeting, description of practical arrangements,
presentation of timetable,
 Information about the course location.
 Icebreaker activities, introduction to the course.

 Changes in the education system in the age of information

 Determination of obstacles to learning in SEN
Day 2
 The modern stage of special education needs (SEN) development
 Implementation of inclusive education
 Equal opportunities for all: inclusion process
 Groups of people supported by inclusion
 Main steps for inclusive education
 Social approaches to disability issues
 Obstacles to inclusive education for people with SEN
 Ways of overcoming obstacles and providing inclusive education

Day 3
 Definition, classification and application of assistive technologies
(AT)

 As a tool for the autonomy of persons with disabilities

 Technical, social and psychological aspects of SEN applications
 Selecting and using the appropriate AT
 Assistive technologies for education
 The effect of using IT on SEN
 AT for the training needs of students with physical disability
 AT for the education requirements of visually impaired students
 AT for education needs of hearing impaired students
 AT for the education needs of language and speech disabled students
 AT for education needs of students with cognitive impairment

Target Group
 All kind of teachers, trainers, educators, school administrators, etc.

Preparation
Before the course;
 A detailed pre-course questionnaire to indicate their level of experience, teaching
backgrounds and training will be completed by participants.
 They will also prepare a presentation to reflect their own teaching method.
 A closed Facebook group will be created for getting know each other of all participants and to
share practical information.
Validation
 A course participation certificate will be given to all participants.
