Rating: 5/52 users

art experiences with woodcut and wood printing – creativity and nature art experiences for teachers and staff – get to know different ways of art and possibilities how to use art (woodcut and woodprint) in school and organisations.
The course is designed for the professional development of school education staff, supported with Erasmus+ funding (Key Action 1: Mobility project for school education staff).

This is what our course offers:
getting to know art, especially woodcut, woodprint, as another global language and learning to use it together, promoting creativity as a human quality in everyday school life and using it in various subjects, discovering nature and mountains as a source of inspiration and getting to know Salzburg as a world-renowned UNESCO cultural heritage city.

We are a team of teachers and artists from different European countries and with different subject combinations. Our philosophy: Art is the first „foreign“ language we learn in school and we can share our ideas worldwide with art. Woodcut is a natural printing technique to reproduce our ideas. Wood is a perfect material for expression with a long tradition (China, Japan, Dürer, Expressionism, Munch, Hokusai,..).

You work and stay during the day in the Art Chalet Vorderschuhzach (1000 meters sealevel, mountain view) and you can use all materials there. You can choose your working place (outside, inside). You can work alone or with other artists, you can ask for help, you can cook together or alone, you can choose your working hours, you can enjoy the mountains, the view, the sunset, the fireplace, you can go for walking, climbing or to town (just 3km distance to the city center)
Drawing in the nature, design for land art objects, exploring with natural materials, wood objects, wood printings, woodcut, mosaic, photography, and so on.

The course, art experiences in the mountain area – drawing – Land Art – woodcut, was very well planned and conducted, it was an excellent combination of practical and theoretical knowledge that gave us the opportunity to develop our creativity and explore various techniques of artistic expression, having mountains as a source of inspiration, imagining different forms of art in the context of the classroom. The ArtChalet offers a workshop with a focus on printing, drawing and woodcutting, with all the conditions to put through this type of training experience. As far as word cutting and woodcarving are concerned, a natural printing technique to reproduce ideas was developed. Wood was used to carve a design, grounding out the part to be reproduced. Then, ink is used to paint the engraved part of the design, and at the end, a printer is used to exert pressure and to reveal the design/image on the paper. The ArtChalet outer space was generally used for wood carving. The teacher trainer gave thorough explanations needed for developing all artistic works and also made available all the materials necessary to accomplish our art pieces. Wood was actually the basis of all artistic creations during the whole week, whether we were using logs or wood boards. In conclusion, participating in this course was very interesting and enriching, both from a professional point of view, with the exchange of ideas and knowledge, and from a personal point of view, contributing to an improvement in my teaching practice.

Throughout my long teaching career, I've created different art pieces, materials and resources, using various practical activities whenever possible. The course I took, Art Experiences in the Mountain Area – Drawing – Land Art – Woodcut, aimed to promote creativity and artistic experiences, having the landscape as a source of inspiration and as a way of imagining different forms of Art in the classroom context. The teacher trainer gave thorough explanations needed for developing all artistic works and also made available all the materials necessary to accomplish our art pieces. I conclude that participating in this training proved extremely important to my professional training and had a clear impact on my pedagogical practices.
