Coping with Web 2.0 technology - a challenge for contemporary education

General approach:
The aim of the course is to train education professionals to face the multiple challenges of Web 2.0 technologies

Target group:
Teachers, teacher trainers, school librarians, other education professionals interested

Focus of the training activity:
The course will focus on discussing and exploring the practices of young people with regard to
Web 2.0 applications and how to deal with it in the classroom making use of their huge potential.

General context:
The applications of WEB 2.0 technology have generated an increased interest, especially among children and youth, but also rejection reactions from the adults’ part, especially from teachers. The youth have gained “ownership” over Web 2.0 applications, whereas the teachers have excluded themselves from the group of users and beneficiaries.

In today’s schools many teachers are revolted at the idea that their students could made use of those applications during their classes. The applications of WEB 2.0 technology are actually more integrated in the everyday life of an increasing number of people than teachers expect.

During the course period we will present examples of good practices in changing the educational landscape by using Web 2.0 technology elements in everyday activities both by teachers and pupils.
The selected participants will be asked to prepare a material concerning the situation in this field in their own country and school.

The focus will be on free access tools with huge impact in education: Google tools, including Google docs plus add-ons; YouTube; Microsoft Onedrive, including Microsoft OneNote; Dropbox; Social Networking; other mobile apps.

Expected results:
The course will promote the use of WEB 2.0 tools by teachers in order to diminish the knowledge gap between them and their students (being well known the huge advance students have over teachers) and to boost learning.

After the training course participants:
• will know more about the relationship between Web 2.0 technologies and education;
• will have a better idea about the possible use of WEB 2.0 tools in their daily activity;
• will benefit from good practices presented during the sessions;
• will have the opportunity to become a part of an European network of Educators promoting new educational tools

Practicalities:
Detailed information regarding the programme of the course, methodology and preparation will be sent to granted participants. Participants will be assisted for the entire course period with the transport from/to the airport, accommodation (single/ double rooms) and meals. Cultural events will be offered in the evenings and at weekend.

The course fee is 70 euros per day.
