Course Description

Our society is becoming faster and faster, and more and more demanding. Within that, students seem to be every day less motivated to learn pure contents, and more in need for skills for building their life path and professional careers. At the same time, teachers often feel they lack effective tools to educate nowadays’ learners and, at the same time, to deal with nowadays’ school curricula.

This course will guide participants in finding a “compromise” between the demands of school curricula, students’ motivations and the need to develop their competences.

Participants will inquire how theories can be connected to real life, how knowledge is incorporated into wide competences, as well as what “competence” should mean in the educational domain. They will explore features, examples, pros and cons of various teaching methodologies. They will also get involved in many practical activities to design lessons with task-based learning, project-based learning and the flipped classroom. In addition, they will get ideas on how to possibly incorporate visual resources to introduce some topics, as well as on how to assess students during the learning process with the use of rubrics.

No prior-knowledge about those specific topics is required from participants.

By the end of the course, participants should be more familiar with the concept of competences in nowadays’ education, and feel more creative in finding out taylor-made solutions using tools such as task-based learning, project-based learning, the flipped classroom and the visual thinking strategy. They will take away lesson plans and activities with the aim of making subjects more relevant, meaningful and useful for students’ lives and careers.

The course "21st century Skills for Teachers and Students” organized in Amsterdam by Europass Agency was aimed at exploring the most recent teaching approaches and at analyzing different ways of responding to the needs of students based on different school curricula. Classes focused on exploring the following methods: FLIPPED CLASSROOM, TASK-BASED LEARNING, PROJECT-BASED LEARNING, VISUAL STRATEGY and PROJECT ZERO. All activities were based on collaborative tasks so that all participants could share their ideas and their own teaching experience. It was particularly fruitful that all participants had different backgrounds in terms of nationalities, school level and subjects, so that discussions were enriched by a great variety of perspectives. The trainer had thorough knowledge of the latest methodological approaches and was extremely good at liaising with trainees. He was always ready to answer challenging questions and was ready to give any extra information or help, if needed. Finally, the venue of the course was really nice and easy to get to by public transport.

In my opinion, ut was a very wide training, we talked about so many things but not very deeply. There were not many options of making a deep reflection with other participarts. I felt like we were rushing. The last day we did almost nothig, but some games. The "cultural day" it was an individual activity, just visiting a museum.

Mi experiencia fue muy buena. El curso me hizo reflexionar sobre nuestra forma de educar, así como las bases de la comunicación que solemos olvidar. Además pusimos en prácticas metodologías innovadoras que permiten que el alumnado cree aprendizajes más significativos. También pude aprender de las vivencias de mis compañeros que, al ser de otros países y con mayor experiencia que yo, podían aconsejarme en mi día a día como docente. Además el profesor hizo todo el curso muy ameno, siendo cercano con nosotros y haciéndolos participes en todo momento.

Jh. - Reflexion der eigenen Arbeit und Erarbeitung von Verbesserungsmöglichkeiten - Erstellung konkreter Unterrichtsideen - sehr kompetente Kursleiterin - Kursangebot wurde von Kursleiterin genau auf die Bedürfnisse der Kursteilnehmer angepasst - An jedem Kurs-Tag war man gefordert, sich mit neuen und anderen Ansätzen auseinanderzusetzen, so dass man mit vielen Ideen für den eigenen Unterricht im Gepäck wieder nach Hause gefahren ist.
