On the road with the Normans : Spain, Italia, Greece, Malta, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and Norway.

I am a music teacher in a rural college of 480 pupils (11 to 15 years old ) in Normandy. I am preparing a Erasmus+ project aiming to give the students the desire to discover and meet foreign cultures and people through choir singing, traditions and folk music. The presence of a music teacher is therefore essential.

Following the steps of the Normans and the Vikings, we're hoping to have partnerships with Italy (Sicily, Puglia, Calabria), Spain (Aragon region), Greece (Corfu), Malta, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and Norway. . We wish the presence of traditional musics, and folk dances as well. Each country will choose a song from another country to remix it in its own way in addition to learning local heritage songs. Cross-curricular, historical, cultural and linguistic skills enable other teachers to get involved in the project

Dear colleague, my name is Anna Pia and I'm an italian music teacher in a secondary school (age 11/14) in Alvignano, a rural area near Naples, in the region of Campania. I have a choir and an instrumental group with my pupils and we perform ancient folk songs and dances. Naples, in the past, had Norman invasions and from other peoples of northern Europe. This fact has left many influences in music and folk songs. So your idea (On the road with the Normans) is very interesting to us and we would like to be part of your project. Also with my school I have just finished another appreciated Erasmus project on the Fine Arts. Please can you contact me at this email: mastrangelo.annapia@gmail.com

Hello, my name is Catalina Dumbravanu, a teacher of English at Fine Arts Highschool în România. I know România is not part of the wishlist, but my school has a wide list of participations în music specialized contests especially on choir and orchestra. Performing traditional music from our country would definitely add a sense of cultural diversity to the project and we would be happy to be part of it.

Hello from sunny Seville, in the south of Spain. We are a middle-sized secondary school, with students aged 12-18 in Coria del Rio, a small town 10 kms. from Sevill, on the left bank of the river Guadalquivir. The Normans fought against the Arabs here, in a famous battle ,so we could use that fact to work with you. Spanish people, and Andalusians in particular, have a rich folkloric and handcraft tradition. My e-mail is ifernandez@iesrodrigocaro.com, in case you want us to join your project. Thank you in advance, Irene Fernández

Hi Irene Thanks for your answer and your interest but for the moment we wanted partners must have a real historical connection with the Normans. Seville is a beautiful town but arabic culture is more présent than Normans culture. If this project changes, we'll contact you regards Sabine

Hi, my name is Stella Lykogiannaki and I am an English teacher and vice principal in the 3rd gymnasium of Heraklion on the island of Crete in Greece. My school is an urban, public educational institution of general secondary education in Heraklio, Crete which has about 600 students in total, aged between 13 and 15 years old. Crete is one of the many Greek islands situated in the south of Greece that has to cope with the financial crisis like the rest of the country, which is affected by the constant danger of bankruptcy and default. Our school is one of the biggest gymnasiums in Heraklio, Crete and equipped with basic educational facilities. Every year we implement cultural or environmental projects, which may include the exchange of cultural and educational visits of our students. Also, we cooperate with other institutions and take part in various activities that require careful coordination, as well as team work and reinforce tolerance to difference, develop cultural diversity and strengthen team spirit. Besides, we have integration classes at our school for pupils with special educational needs, deaf pupils in particular, who are taught the core subjects daily by special needs educational staff. They are provided with personalised teaching in languages, maths, physics, chemistry, so that they can keep up with the general, school timetable. We are interested in the topic of the project you have suggested so if you want you can contact me by e-mail: slykogiannaki@gmail.com.
